Temporal Difference Learning

For those of you with draughts based computer code, stumbled over some intreresting notes. m I found I had to rename the file to 'learning-draughts.pdf' (dropping the .GZ extension as apparently it's not compressed). Excerpt: 'This paper describes several aspects of using temporal difference learnin...

Some nice related prose

Taken from m by John W. Johnston, thought some of you might enjoy this. More than just a game Once upon a time, my Father taught me to play Draughts. He explained the moves, forwards not back, diagonal not straight, jump over a piece to take it, get to the other side to be King'd then become all-pow...

Re: PDN Question

The resource tag as I'm intending to use it (assuming the app has an export feature) allows a pointer to dynamic content to be embedded in a game file. Its not static minded but rather provides a degree extensibility. Its equatable to a hyperlink that would allow more detail to be shown. Who knows, ...

Re: PDN Question

Bingo! You've nailed it spot on Matt. Speaking only for myself here... My idea simply allows you open a document, if that document as an association, then windows will open it with the associated executable. For instance: txt/Notepad doc/Word html/browser Another example: Visualize a diagram within ...

Re: PDN Question

Hi Murray. When and if the app in question is born, I'll let community consensus be the judge. Thanks for your input.

Another silly newbie question

I'd like to ask another silly newbie question folks =) When reading/writing diagrams -as the board faces you-, is red (black or darker that is) ontop or bottom? Looks mainly to be topmost from what I've read. The reason I ask is that while the board is consistently numbered the same across all the b...

Re: PDN Question

Howdy Murray, glad you chimed in with your thoughts, thank you kind sir. I'll kindly rebutt them in order. The major problem with this of course, is one of security. If PDN files had this kind of power, it opens them up to abuse. If a PDN reader simply trusted any PDN file it opened (and accessed al...

Hi Ingo.

Good point. Too many distractions can spoil the experience. Is checkers popular in Germany?

Good/Bad Choice?

Well, decided to grab a more substantial checker set than what I now have (two sets, the typical folding board with red/black plastic pieces and a small 5in.x5in. study board). After reading <Bob Newell's article on obtaining a regulation set> , a sobering hunt ensued... Hoping to strike a reasonabl...

Re: General Discussion is supposed to be about Checkers/Drau

Hi Matt.

For an IDE I use <TextPad>. (Mainly because I dabble in alot of languages and this gives me a single IDE for all).

For a free compiler, checkout <Pelles C>. Which has a nice IDE btw.
