Re: Expand number of 11-man ballot openings?

11 man is so unexplored that it probably isn't necessary at this point in time, but otherwise I personally would have no problems with it. The more important thing to me, now that we have strong programs with large endgame databases, would be to have someone analyze every possible ballot and elimin...

Re: Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas

Ed are they the ending databases from the Las Vegas tournament on the site http://www.fierz.ch/download.php Yes. Ed could you use this GUI during the tournament in Las Vegas. The tournament was in August. That version of CB says October, so it cannot be the one used. But it may be the closest one y...

Re: Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas

As I said, kingsrow 1.13i is the only version available on the Wayback Machine that is close to the version used in Las Vegas. The exact version that was used in Las Vegas cannot be resurrected. Use it with either the cake or chinook 8-piece db. Those dbs have not changed since 2002.

Re: Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas

Thanks Ed. Write what you know what endgame database to download, the one that was at the tournament in Las Vegas. And are you able to find the versions somewhere KingsRow 1.12v. The one who played in Las Vegas. If you use 1.13i, it works with either the cake db or the chinook db. I do not have any...

Re: Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas

I no longer have those old programs. For kingsrow, the best you can do is download version 1.13i from the Wayback Machine, which is available in this February 2003 snapshot: https://web.archive.org/web/20030214195533/http://pages.prodigy.net:80/eyg/Checkers/KingsRow.htm . It is very close to the ver...

Re: Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas

Please write if anyone remembers what time it was to play and what software versions were played at the tournament. You can find that info using the Wayback machine. The full rules of the tournament were published here: https://web.archive.org/web/20030618233125/http://www.checkersolutions.co.uk/wc...

There are two detailed papers about this event. "Nemesis wins the Computer Checkers World Championship in Las Vegas" by Martin Fierz: http://www.fierz.ch/vegas.htm "Nemesis is World Computer Checkers Champion" by Murray Cash, via the WayBack Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/2...

4-move and 5-move ballots

I have posted an analysis of the 4-move and 5-move ballots at the kingsrow website. It consists of a breakdown on which ones draw and lose, a difficulty rating for each of them that draw, and new play in the kingsrow opening book for all these ballots.

Re: Prize Problem

I completely agree with Martin. Computer checkers programs perform relatively poorly on positions with many pitches or with smothers, but that's only because these positions are extremely rare in normal game play. We can certainly design programs that are good at solving such positions, but it would...

Re: CheckerBoard 1.76, Cake 1.89f, KingsRow 1.19d

Joe, it looks like I made a mistake when I created the CB installer. I forgot to move the new CB executables into the directory where the installer picks them up before running it. I have now fixed the CB install files and uploaded them to the kingsrow web site (and then actually downloaded them to ...

Re: US OPEN 11 MAN BALLOT CHAMPIONSHIP, VIDOR, TX

A couple of years ago I did an analysis of the 11-man ballots. As a result, we now know which ones are draws and which ones lose. Of the 2500 ballots, there are 247 that lose. I also developed a difficulty metric for the ballots that can be seen in these two tables: Table of 11-man difficulty rating...

Re: Opening Name origins

You might find some answers in "A Compilation of the Barred Openings" by Dennis C. Cayton. I found it online here: http://www.usacheckers.com/Cayton's%20Compilation.doc I noticed that it has some information on the origin of "the skunk" name, but I didn't check to see if it has a...
