Just a quick note.
A better translation would be "I'm a bit tired" instead of "I'm a bit bored".

Re: WCDF Ratings Update?
Scoring by game or by ballot will not change anything in the rating list. You are simply multiplying the rating differences by a constant, but the information content is the same. If you have three players at 2200, 2100 and 2000 or if you have the same three players at 1100, 1050 and 1000 or at 165...

Re: WCDF Ratings Update?
1. The compression syndrome. The scoring by points per game instead of points per round greatly compresses the bandwith of the ratings. The scoring by points per ballot (or round) in 3 Move Tournaments would result in a vastly improved rating list, and allow the Elo system to operate in the manner ...

Re: CHECKERS SOLVED??? - DEGREES OF SOLVABILITY
I invite you to read this article https://dke.maastrichtuniversity.nl/m.w ... hapter.pdf and search for the word heuristic. Again I invite you to do a search for transposition table in the above article. Also search for the word threshold I might have misunderstood it but it seems to me that this i...

Re: CHECKERS SOLVED??? - DEGREES OF SOLVABILITY
Being able to make a move within the required time limit is the normal condition - there is nothing abnormal about it. You are going to have to explain to me how a time limit is abnormal I just don't understand your thinking. Also are you reading that as though it is uniformly 2 minutes - I read th...

Re: CHECKERS SOLVED??? - DEGREES OF SOLVABILITY
Assuming that all of the proof tree is correct Chinook could still lose if the timer is less than 2 minutes per move. Sure. Or if the hard disk breaks or if electricity blacks out, or if the human operator makes a mistake. But we usually don't take into consideration "abnormal" conditions...

Re: CHECKERS SOLVED??? - DEGREES OF SOLVABILITY
Dear Liam, It's actually quite simple. Checkers is solved in the sense that: If you play GAYP against Chinook, you will NEVER win, and you may lose. The same is true if the opponent of Chinook is Michele Borghetti, Kingsrow or anybody/anything else. The fortress position will not be relevant, becaus...

Re: Computer programs tournament
Edit: I think I see the issue. We have been using slightly different versions of these terms. Yes, I think we got to the bottom of the issue. Your definition of "weakly solved" actually correspond to mine of "strongly solved". I don't have a definition of "winning in the le...

Re: Computer programs tournament
Alex is right on this one. They weakly solved the game, meaning that Chinook will never lose the game with either color from the starting position, but may not win if the opponent makes a losing move. Of course it will still win most of the time, but it is not "proven". Otherwise it would...

Re: Computer programs tournament
Dear Ed, Sune, Alex, We are speaking of a fairly uncontroversial topic, no need to get too heated. and will always win once an opponent makes a losing move. Not true. This is not a part of scientific proof. Chinook team only claimed that program never makes a losing move in GAYP games. This is the l...

Re: FMJD
I understand that the main issue were linked to the organization of the championship in Lille and in Ufa and in general with the focus on Draughts 100 instead of Draughts 64 (Brazillian / Russian). For those interested in all the details , you can read the minutes http://fmjd.org/downloads/news/774/...

Re: WCDF Ratings Update?
First of all, a big thank you to the mantainer of the ratings; it is a tough job and I know that to criticize is always easier than to do. I am doing some research on various ratings databases I have some questions: 1) Is the "raw" data available for download ? 2) Is there a table of the i...

Re: Computer programs tournament
Chinook solved GAYP checkers, not 3-move checkers. A number of 3-move ballots were solved in the process, but IIRC there are some that were not solved. No program available to the public has the Chinook "opening book" that plays perfect GAYP checkers. Computer tournaments could play 11-ma...

Re: Computer programs tournament
Not to mention that straight checkers was solved by Schaeffer in 2007 http://www.cs.cornell.edu/courses/CS6700/2013sp/readings/06-b-Checkers-Solved-Science-2007.pdf http://webdocs.cs.ualberta.ca/~jonathan/publications/ai_publications/ijcai05checkers.pdf So programs of the level of Chinook would draw...
