Re: Vacant ACF Tresurer position

What would checkers be without a bit of drama? This post is not meant to defend or offend anyone, it's just a statement of my personal opinion on what started out as a good thing for the ACF. Anyway, I'd like to thank John Acker for the effort he put into the Treasurer position. John did a lot of wo...

Re: 2013 PA/District 3 Results

Just a little bit to add. Yes this event was a huge disappointment after all the date/venue switching, though I hope everyone who attended had a good time. The tournament date/venue situation will be remedied for next year. With only 4 players we had plenty of time for discussions and ideas of what ...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

The room is a bit of an odd shape (trapezoid), but it's big enough for a small tournament. I don't think it could accommodate much more than 20 people, but it should work for this event. The manager is very willing to work with me and I'm sure if we needed to we can setup a secondary playing room. T...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

Yeah, I don't think we should combine the tournaments for things like state titles. I'm just saying that if the August dates don't work out for Pennsylvania and folks want to play a tournament that weekend, the Mid-Ohio is an option. Thats what I meant, sorry if it wasn't clear. Since OH is not in ...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

I'm looking for input from players who either plan on attending or would've attending had the dates been different. I would just like that input before Wednesday evening so I can let the manager know and we can start spreading the word to checker players. If any wish to send their views to me priva...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

I am confuse with all these posts ... Dates are August 16-17 (Fri-Sat) and venue in Carlisle ... correct ? This was my understanding. The actual venue is moving from the original announcement, but all other things I believed to be correct. However, I've not put any money down yet so if the players'...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

Would it be possible to call the Amish players in Lancaster to see if they'd be playing in the first place? I'm all for reaching out to players, but at some point we've got to play the numbers. Jay H asked 2 years ago for us. They said maybe 1 or 2, but most likely nobody would because of having an...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

I received another call from the venue and they are going to try to put us in their other hotel, which is about 6 miles away. I'm going to stop in early next week and make sure the room is big enough and the location is ok. If I remember the hotel correctly, it's a busier section of town with a lot ...

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013

Jason has dates set for Aug 16-17 at the Days INN in Carlisle PA. This would fall on a Friday and Saturday. Will be 1 division, maybe two depending on participation. Jason will be posting the official announcement soon! Who will be coming? Just got a call from the venue. They have decided to renova...

Re: Swiss Tournament Automatic Generator

Greeting All, I would have posted this under the software/computing section of this forum, however I don't think it would have been seen by my intended audience. I have developed some software (text-based currently) that will automatically run a tournament. The only thing the user would have to inp...

Re: Proposed 2012 Western PA Checker Tournament

I think a 1 day tournament is a great idea Neil! Unfortunately neither date works well for me, so I probably won't be able to attend. The 17th is definitely out for me and the weekend after Thanksgiving is always hectic for me so I doubt I'd be able to make it on the 24th either. Keep us posted thou...

Re: Checkerboard for Linux

The source from Martin Fierz's site has several of windows specific headers included in the C files. I've never gone through the source to determine how much they're used or how easily they could be stripped out, I just assumed it was not worth the effort. Moreover the top engines are only provided ...

Re: GM Edward Bruch

Very sorry to hear of Mr. Bruch's passing. I feel honored to have played against him several times at Ohio and PA tournaments of the past. He will certainly be missed.
