Re: Victor Habgood for ACF President
I totally agree with you. There are a few ways we could play online tournaments and still avoid the cheating. We must take steps right away to start moving in that direction. Thanks for the reply!

Victor Habgood for ACF President
Ladies and gentlemen, I am officially announcing my bid for 2023 ACF President. I plan on bringing some changes. I wanted to highlight a few : More organized online tournaments with referees. Bringing more members from the online community. Updated information and better presence throughout. More in...

Re: 2019 GAYP National Tournament
I definitely think the details of that response are not correct. I am guessing your source here is Kim Willis? I asked her for clarification multiple times and got nothing. I think getting her involved in anything was a mistake. Alan was the only help I got for any details and my team was doing a gr...

Thinking backwards
I finally found the correct place in my opinion to have this philosophical discussion. I met Dr. Tinsley once in the 90s before he passed. I remember how everyone would always talk about how he could analyze a position in the board and run the game backwards in his head to the start. Therefore, he c...

Re: Checkerboard for Linux
I finally after all this time did it, lol. I got everything stripped down to compile with pretty much any linux distro out there. It actually wasn't that hard since their source code was visual c. If anyone needs help with this and wants to do the same just let me know. Although as my colleague poin...

Re: Mobile opening generator
I could make a tournament app that could generate openings (with pictures) and keep score for typical tournaments (swiss, round robin, etc..) if there was an appetite for such a thing

Re: NC State OPen - May 15 & 16, 2015
I agree that JR Smith is a huge asset to checkers, especially in this area. I hope I can make this tournament. I just got back from deployment last week and I have a training command that has to agree to let me off on a Friday for this tourney

Re: How to increase membership in ACF ?
I think we are missing a bigger picture....the majority of people can't keep up with travel expenses and time lost away from work in this era. Convenience is the key, and how can we do that? Technology...technology..technology. ACF sponsored computer-based tournaments would be a huge addition. I am ...

Re: Swiss Tournament Automatic Generator
This is WONDERFUL!!! I am so glad someone is bringing the ACF forward into the technology age and even more pleased with the acceptance of an automated pairings system within the ACF community. I Had been planning on getting a web based version of this for a long time now, and just haven't had time...

Re: Swiss Tournament Automatic Generator
Nope ! - The two highest rated players should not be drawn against each other in the first round. The purpose of the Swiss System is (like a bottle of fresh milk) to let the cream gradually rise to the top. The most common method adopted is to list the players in rating order, then split the list i...

Re: Swiss Tournament Automatic Generator
Very nice Vic! Releasing under GPL, are you planning on hosting on google code or anything like that? What are you using to store the information when the program closes? Flat file, xml, or maybe sqlite db? After a couple of e-mails I received this week it looks like I might be able to add a featur...

Re: Swiss Tournament Automatic Generator
It would be interesting to play with difficulty levels within the 3-move generator. I think there's a ranked opening list somewhere, and I expect it'd be easy to tell the script to pick a top-20% difficulty opening for later rounds, or for the top competitors. Done! As of tonight, everything appear...
