Why are there two different icons? One has "ACF" inside a circle. The other does not.

Turn-based v. real-time
I think that, on the Internet, most real-time games are played fast, a form of speed Checkers. With turn-based, on the other hand, you have the option of taking your time and trying to come up with the best move. It can be a more serious form of the game.

GoldToken
It is now possible to play Italian, Pool, Russian, Brazilian, International and Canadian Checkers on GoldToken. They were installed yesterday evening. This is in addition to Straight, Giveaway and Restriction (Three-Move Ballot) Checkers, which were already available. papaTrex -- Wed 28/2 at 9,35 (C...

A Checker player's paradise
GoldToken is in the process of becoming a Checker player's paradise, it seems, with all the variants that will be available.

Turkish Checkers
Another variant that might be of interest to some people at GoldToken is Turkish Checkers. BrainKing has this game installed on their site. I have played it there. The men move straight forward and sideways and the king moves like a rook, which makes the game perhaps unique among Checker variants. I...

Italian Checkers
These are the correct jumping rules: (1) A man can never jump a king. (2) Always jump the maximum number of pieces. (3) Jump the maximum number of pieces with a king, if possible. (4) When jumping with a king, take the maximum number of kings. (5) Jump the kings the earliest possible in the capturin...

GoldToken Checker variants
Using a different colour for the border of each variant would be just fine. I believe that is pretty much your general system. I am delighted that you are thinking of adding more Checker variants, especially Italian Checkers. If the rules are correct, you will have one up on the competition and I sh...

GoldToken variants
I would love to see American Pool Checkers and Italian Checkers implemented at GoldToken. The only other variant that is really equivalent to Pool Checkers is Russian Checkers (Shashki). The three essential features are (1) the flying king, (2) the backward-jumping men and (3) take-to-your-advantage...

I like IYT because they have Straight, Russian (almost the same as Pool), Italian and International Checkers. It is the only turn-based site I know of that has all four. My one complaint is that they do not have the rules right for the Italian game. I keep encouraging them to correct this and they h...

Response to Macb's comment
Chess is not necessarily the same the world over. The Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Thais & Indians all have their own national variants of this game. Western Chess is simply the recognized international form of the game, much like International Draughts, which is the recognized international form...

Scoring at the 2007 GAYP National Tourney
Has anyone considered 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw? That way a person with a win and a draw would score 3 points while someone with two draws would score only 2, a small premium for playing more ambitiously.

What about turn-based Internet play?
The above contributions all seem to equate Internet play with real-time games. What about turn-based games? They are a totally different type of animal. Different from real-time Internet games and different from face-to-face tournament games. I, for one, never play real-time on the Internet, only tu...
