Re: Dr. Robert L. Shuffett died April 1, 2014
Very sad to hear of the passing of Dr Shuffett. My deepest sympathy to his family. I received a wonderful letter from Dr Shuffett some years ago and will always remember his kind words. Clearly a lovely gentleman. RIP.

Re: Jimmy Grant
I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I met Jimmy at the Great Britain and Ireland v USA International Match at Bournemouth, England, in 1973 and took an instant liking to him. He was about the most friendly player one could wish to meet. I will always remember Jimmy as he requested Walter Hellman...

Re: New Checker Tournament
Here is the latest information on the Winchester Checker Tournament 9th and 10th January, 2015. I am looking forward to the GAYP training session and playing in the amateur section on the Sunday. I am also looking forward to spectating at the masters event on Saturday. It is sincerely hoped that thi...

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
Yes, that I what said Kent. I wondered why I did not see your name in the players' list for the Welsh Open. Sorry you could not make it. I will pop along next year to watch the play. I do not play in tournaments any longer as I am too old now.

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
I see. I wondered why I did not see your name mentioned in the Open. I will probably go along next year as a spectator.

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
Cannot recall precisely. It was just some friendly games there. We had good tournaments at Goldtoken until a year ago but nothing now I also play at IYT. There are many hundreds of players at these sites far stronger than me of course, but I do get the occasional win which is always good.

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
So you beat my old friend John Morgan. Together with your other excellent results it will indeed be interesting to see the WCDF Ratings, which should present you in a very good light. Not having won anything of merit since 1987, albeit by sheer luck, I do not expect to see my name in the ratings. If...

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
Hi Kent, About fifteen years ago when George Miller ran the event two games per round would be played, thus allowing players the chance of the red and white side. During the past eight or so years one-game rounds have been used. This does allow for a certain amount of luck as a player could well hav...

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
On the topic of the best method to run a tournament it depends, of course, on how many are entered and whether it is a freestyle or three-move event. In Welsh Open tournaments of one game per round (tossing a coin to determine colours) we have had as many as eighteen games played in two days! Recent...

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
Hi Ingo, Just to correct you. John Morgan has never won the Welsh Open. That is not to say he will not, for if a player of my low playing standard can win it, albeit by sheer luck, I am sure John can as he is a far stronger player than I ever will be. Even though my health is in a serious condition ...

Many thanks Liam. I have had over twenty messages from players who cannot access the information on the qualifiers.

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
The Scottish Draughts Association site can be better accessed at: http://www.scottishdraughts.com/wworld-checkers-draughts-federation I have no problem accessing the site address I gave earlier, but others said they cannot. It is hoped that the one above will work. My thanks to Liam Stephens for his...

Re: GAYP Qualifiers 2015
Glad to be of assistance Alex. Yes, the Borghetti v Scarpetta freestyle match will be a great one. I am looking forward to seeing the games.
