Re: Expand number of 11-man ballot openings?

Thanks for your work on this Ed. I guess the next step (if it hasn't already been done), is to have ballots made by the ACF that incorporate only these 11 man ballot openings that draw.

Re: Expand number of 11-man ballot openings?

11 man is so unexplored that it probably isn't necessary at this point in time, but otherwise I personally would have no problems with it. The more important thing to me, now that we have strong programs with large endgame databases, would be to have someone analyze every possible ballot and elimina...

Re: World Computer Tourney 2002

I was there playing majors and remember watching them play some. In this event, the 3 programmers themselves all came and I believe brought their own computers with their own personal versions of each program already installed. Some rounds, they played a random opening from the tough deck, but other...

Re: Are people satisfied with the current rating system?

I agree, a conversation a Nationals would be a great way to cover a lot of ground. However, I think you are already on the right track. I do think having a provisional formula that gets new players to their proper rating as quickly as possible is better (I think chess does 20 games or they use to), ...

Re: Are people satisfied with the current rating system?

Sorry I am late to this discussion. Been pretty busy and guilty of not checking the forums enough. I was trying to get some of these issues corrected a little over a year ago via e-mail with those who better understand the math behind it such as Mr. Boatman and Mr. Clark. So I am very glad you broug...

Re: 11-Man Prize Fund Layout / Suggestions

That is the point of the discussion Alex. A particular sponsor has the right to dictate how they want their sponsorship money used, just like it is in other games/sports that I have competed in. So if the sponsor, or Mr. McDaniel in this case, wants the money more spread out, they can do what they w...

Re: 11-Man Prize Fund Layout / Suggestions

Alex, we are happy to discuss ideas to help move the game forward. However, none of us are really in a position to do anything at this time. You, however, were voted to be the players rep. This means you are still in position to help change things for the better.

Re: 11-Man Prize Fund Layout / Suggestions

It has always seemed odd that checkers pays out 100% of the field at tournaments. I do not know of any other sport/game that does that. However, the goal is to encourage more players to come to tournaments and improve their game, without chasing away those who are already coming. I feel like Joe's s...

Re: 11-Man Prize Fund Layout / Suggestions

I pretty much agree with what Joe said. Traveling and playing in tournaments is not about the money, but I think most people can agree that it is not right for a minors level player who finishes top 3 to walk away with as much money as a master level player who finished in the top half. I'd love to ...

Re: 1952 Banks-Tinsley match

Are the other games in that 1952 match correct? Several of the games that were draws are showing opposite colors than what Solid Checkers gives.

1952 Banks-Tinsley match

Does anyone have the official match book from this match?

I've noticed some inconsistencies with the Aurora database and what is given in Solid Checkers. The easiest example is the first win where it shows that Tinsley won with the White side, but it is a clear Red win on the board.

Re: WCDF Ratings Update?

The problem though is that any rating system needs a sheer amount of data to truly be accurate. As of now, there aren't nearly enough checker tournaments for most players to get an accurate rating, unless your one of the few who can travel and play 5+ tournaments per year. If we switch to round scor...

This is interesting. How capable would you be at building a full gaming site for playing checkers? Similar to chess.com
