Checker Quotes: The Worst Ever?
We all know and pretty much despise the "You need to play chess, not checkers" quote and all the ones similar to it. But I may have come across the worst of the worst by a comedian named Demetri Martin, who obviously doesn't know much about checkers and checker players. "I was on the ...

Checker Maven - 20 Years
I'm very pleased to say that with today's column (2024-12-07) the Checker Maven webzine completes 20 years of weekly publication. I'm appreciative to everyone who has read and continues to read the column. I plan to carry on as long as health permits. I won't try to guess how long that might be, but...

Re: Complete Checkers: Insights and Repertoire 2nd editions
I think some hard cover editions would be most welcomed in the future :). I've started on them. As it requires complete reformatting of both books, it is going to take about a year as I can't work on it full time. But hopefully I will succeed and it will be worth it. Of course they will be more exp...

Re: Complete Checkers: Insights and Repertoire 2nd editions
I am showing the UK editions as updated when I look on amazon.co.uk using a UK shipping address. It may be listed as "unavailable" due to your being in Ireland. You would have to ask Amazon about it. This is odd as there have been sales in Ireland of the first edition.

Wow, an enormous and breathtaking collection of items, some of which look pretty rare. Of course they are priced at collector's prices and maybe are not for the average Joe Checkerist.

Re: Alfred "Al" Lyman died
Fortunately you can still access most of the checkerworld.com content from 2003 to about 2014 with the internet wayback machine on archive.org/web. I found Al's eclectic and detailed content to be both instructive and inspirational. I once had a copy of his Straight Checkers Gold and it reflected Al...

Re: Let's popularize Checkers together
Has anyone looked at lidraughts.org? It's based on the lichess code base and is extremely good and rather popular. It has quite a few variants but alas, only flying kings. I asked about "straight" checkers and they weren't especially interested. But the source code is freely available. It ...

The OMOCH exhibit is still available although it takes a little digging to find:

Also information about this tour can be found in a large book on my Checker Maven site:

Re: Why did the Center opening become obsolete?
Interesting too that Richard Pask's CC:I doesn't mention it either. Just for fun I ran out the KingsRow opening book on this: 1. 11-15 23-19 2. 8-11 22-17 3. 15-18 19-15 4. 10x19 24x8 5. 4x11 28-24 6. 12-16 24-20 7. 6-10 17-14 8. 10x17 21x14 9. 11-15 20x11 10. 7x16 * 9. 11-15 is the last "book&...
