Re: Weak Position with a Strong Move for Checkers

Billy, I thoroughly enjoy your “suck it up” solution! Most people just whine about a problem and do not realize how much joy you can get from this so called problem. For instance, if your roof is leaking, most will try to fix it. I say “suck it up!” That leak can just become a free shower, or fun en...

Re: On Jackasses

This unceasing and profane assault on common decency has no place in our Forum or our organization, and I want to know what the ACF officers and the Forum moderators intend to do about it. I wholeheartedly agree. The moderators must take action and suspend ANYONE who calls another ACF member a &quo...

Re: 2009 ACF G.A.Y.P. Nationals in Lebanon,TN.

You guys are toooo much! You can tell a man's age by how he: "wish, look, talk, play checkers" What would the world be like if there were no women and no checkers? As for the checkers, I'm sure we'd find another game. Plus, the lack of incessant nagging would surely make up f...

A Couple of Questions....

In the opinion of the members of this forum, what rating scale (e.g., 2200+, 2500+, 2000+) could we roughly say translate to one's being an expert? And for those who are above this rating, how much training have you had in the game? i.e., for how long have you been training and how often do you prac...

Re: 777 welcome !

Well to be fair Alex, checkers before the great depression was more popular than it is now. As the stocks drop, people will spend more money on alcohol. My stock portfolio really took a hit. It's pretty diversified...but look at this MetLife $-10.50 ExxonMobil -6.59 IBM -4.96 VFC -4.55 ImClone -1.4...

Re: 777 welcome !

Amen, Alex! You're right, the 777 was merely a market correction of the false raise of the market due to the bailout expectations. Once again, the "conservative" G.W. Bush pushed big spending and it ended up screwing a lot of people. Fortunately, the House was wise enough to not pass this ...

Re: ACF Volunteers

Hello Jason: You have done an excellent job as webmaster, considering your limited time to devote to the site. I readily admit to not being too computer literate and have to rely on others to service and run our ACF site. I know that Kim and Clayton have other duties and I can't expect Dr. Beckwith...

Re: 2008 college football

Florida State will win the ACC. Obviously.

As for #1, it's tough this year. It looks like Florida, though from where I'm sitting I cannot actually in good conscience pick them.

Re: Obit. for Dr. MARION FRANKLIN TINSLEY

As a Florida State student, I had heard that Dr. Tinsley had taught here. I don't know of a "Tallahassee Christian Church," however, and my research hasn't turned up a church here by that name. Perhaps they meant a Christian church in Tallahassee.

Re: Any Interest in a Florida/Georgia/Alabama Tournament?

Well there appears to be enough support for a tournament to be set up. It looks like the support favors a Georgia tournament, so I'll try to set up something in southern-central Georgia as opposed to Tallahassee. Possible sites are in Thomasville, Georgia; Cairo, Georgia; Albany, Georgia; Valdosta, ...

Re: Any Interest in a Florida/Georgia/Alabama Tournament?

Thank you for the information, Mr. Cormier. Something in northern/central Georgia would be perfect. Perhaps Calhoun, where it used to be, would be a fine place to restart the Georgia tournament. Other cities around Atlanta, such as Athens or Macon, should make fine venues as well. We trully have to ...
