Info needed;; urgently

Post by william »

Hi all,

This is essentially a mail for Ian Caws ; Richard Beckwith and lastly some late info from Henri Macaux.

First and fore most Henri needs detailed rules of our game. Some ''playing "rules have been sent to him ie. Black moves first; men can't jump backwords etc.etc.
This is all very interesting for him , but basically what he wants are the official laws of the game , for example how much time is allocated on clocks ( he even asked me if we would be using clocks!!) how many moves in allocated time ; what happens when allocated time expires ; 40 move rule ; etc. etc.
Furthermore there is a chinese workshop for the boards and men ( these will be felt undercoated to avoid noise ) so he needs official size of board ,squares and men!!

Could someone with all of this info get it to Richard asap who could then pass it on to Henri?

QUESTION; Does anyone have any idees of what else could be added to list to help him out with organisation?
If any idees or queries you can post me and I can call him up on telephone.

He also told me that he is awaiting forms from Chinese before going ahead with visa requests.

I personally will be doing this business for myself ; but for info our address will be the Olympic village Bejeing (this will be asked for when applying); rooms are at Chinese cost (as far as we believe) all rooms are 2 bed (with fridges and cookers), so sharing will be probable; there are around 7 tickets left for the flights , and priority will be given to those in need (which seems to me to be a fair idea) ; buses or cars will be there to meet all sportsmen and women at airport

Well that's about all the latest for the moment ; please get back to Henri with all info asap , or go through me if you feel it easier to do this way

many thanks

William, all my numbers are based on asumption we have 50 players.

1. Boards and pieces (35-40 sets)
2. Clocks (30)
3. Tables (40) and chairs (70)
4. Electronic or mechanical demonstration boards (4-6)
5. Scorsheets (800) - highly preferable with white and yellow copies
6. Pens/pencils/markers, notebooks, paper etc
7. Reference cross-table empty sample (including 50 players spots - for the wall)
8. Computers (4)
9. Country falgs
10. Tags with players names
11. Digital cameras (10)
12. Translators
13. Stamps for diagrams
14. Separate room for analyzing
15. Complimentary one-bed rooms for all World and ex-World Champions
16. Providing soda, beer, cofee and ashtrays during the game.

I (and other welcome) will extend this list later.

Alex

Dear William,

1.Alex' list looks good, maybe we should take care that the Computers have printers and internet access, and that Checker Board, and TurboDambase or Aurora Borealis r installed as well as MS Office. That should help to produce the daily bulletin.
I guess that the players should also have access to the press rooms to sent reports back home.
2.The translators should be able to translate English-Chinese amd Russian-Chinese, and maybe also English-Russian
3. No ashtrays or alcohol should be allowed in the playing area or analyse rooms, as well as loud music or singing. We should make a good impression ;-)
4. We should have a set of certificates for all participants and the officials that can be handed over at the winner's ceremony, maybe also a regular board (platic boards)for each participant as present at the end of the ty (I have a board that I got at Prague at my wall signed with the autographs of all participants...).

Concerning the rules for the competition, the WCDF should sent the detailed rules by email to the players one month before the event (we should assume that the nominees know the basic rules and the tournament rules can only now be set up as we know NOW how many players will attend), together with a bulletin that introduces the players and officials (if no-one applies for the job to edit this bulletin I would volunteer), but the players should be informed about the number of rounds, games and balloted openings per round (a list of the 156 possible openings should be given to the players), playing times and the time limit as soon as possible as this affect their preparation, and also that they will recieve the rules and the bulletin a month before the event starts.

And remember the HHGTTG : don't panic !
The other draugts competions have not even published/closed the list of nominations or a set of rules yet.
Especially the question if only citizens can represent a country is still discussed.
Other mind sports have not even asked their top players to play at the WMSG, so we r not behind in that respect.

ok guys

Thats great info.

I've been off line for a bit since last post and have not yet sent alexs' info ; so I will send ingo's at same time tomorrow; and in a few days will give Henri Macaux a call to straighten any uncertainties out.

I started to apply for my visa ; and the girl told me that 3 weeks is more than enough ( which is why i'll be setting mine up around six weeks before) ;;;I am supposing that the ' public employees ' problem ((( no offence meant to anyone LOL))) is not only a French problem and prefer to give a Big margin for error.

I also became aware of the fact that when applying ,one must send a copy of flight ticket!!!!! ( So what happens if they refuse your visa!!)

We also must have a letter attesting to our living quarters during stay but Henri macaux told me that he will be taking care of this

By for now
