2010 National Procedures
Mr. Acker, my son Alex asked me how it would work for the youth if you have some that play in the minors but he plans to play in the majors. He will be playing in the majors at the TN so his performance there will most likely determine what division he will play in at the National.

Re: 2010 National Procedures
The below rule is lifted from National Tournament rules and explains how things were done in previous Nationals when only youth option was to play in main tournament. What I don't know is whether there will be just one youth title, or whether it will be split into "older youth" and "younger youth" etc. I don't recall such a thing as "Major Youth" and "Minor youth" ...In my youth days, there was just the one title.

In the absence of a separate National Youth Tournament, the regular ACF member being 21 (or under) years of age who achieves the highest standing in the tourney shall be recognized as the U.S. Junior Champion until the next National Tournament. An Associate Member shall not be so recognized. Ordinarily, any position in the Masters would rank ahead of any in the Majors or Minors, and any Majors position over any Minors. However, the Executive Committee will resolve any conflict between the positions of junior players competing in different divisions.

Re: 2010 National Procedures
Michael, if Alex will be able to meet one from two criterias below, I'll be the first who recommend him to play in National, Majors:
1) Finish among top 50% players in TN Majors.
This means if, lets say from 20 players, he finish in top 10- he is qualify.
2) Get 50% or more points in TN Majors.
This means if from 16 games he scores 16 points or more - he is qualify.
I hope you agree with me, if he will not meet one of those criterias, it may become very painful for him to play in Major Nationals ... it maybe psychological disaster, just trust me. He is very potential boy, on his way, and enetering timely into Majopr National at right time will be logical continuation of his career.
I am sure it's gonna happen very soon and I wish him all luck in Lebanon.
Regards,
Alex

Re: 2010 National Procedures
Alex's performance in the TN will have everything to do with his entry at the Nationals. Although the TN tourney will be more difficult than the IL 101 Alex has improved a lot since that time. He has been playing with Chuck Freeman, Arthur Mays, myself, and Jim Morrison. He did get a couple of draws from Morrison and Freeman but he has managed wins against Arthur. Hopefully this practice will help him do better at this TN tourney than what many expect!
