Hi John,
Thanks for remembering the Veterans. I spent 30 wonderful years in the Navy. John, as you know, the families of the military also sacrifice while their love ones are on deployment . Recently , on You Tube I came across a song that said it best for the military and their families. Julia Fordham and Paul Reiser
wrote the song "Unsung Heroes" and you can go to You Tube and listen to this song for free. It is one of the best songs ever written to explain support for the military and it is very appropriate on this Veterans Day holiday. Once again, thanks for remembering all of us.
All the best,
Mac Banks
Thank You, Veterans!
Re: Thank You, Veterans!
Armistice Day is not something we celebrate much in Ireland because of the on going Irish /English problem thats been going on for centuries. My own service in the military was the minimum 3 yr stint in the 4th Field Engineers. However today i remember my fathers sister Aunt Gertrude Canning W.RN.S who was murdered in Inverary Scotland in 1942 in an Army base there having been just enrolled 3 months at the time, and as yet unsolved. Also my mothers brother Uncle Joe O Donnell killed in Burma while on active service, whose grave we have never discovered, god bless her she would always shed a tear when the Glenn Campbell song "Galviston" came on the radio, for why i never knew the relevance but she did.As you might know here in Ireland we didnt publicy remember the "fallen" of the great wars. Our family never spoke of such things in public because of the political situation here.
So today i remember WRNS "Gerty" and Irish Rifles "Joe"............................RIP.

Always read "Cannings Compilation 2nd Edition" every day.

While my family directly or indirectly hasn't lost any serviceman or woman for the last 155 odd years, my dad did serve the minimum 3 year military service. (leaving all forms of politics aside) I am grateful for all men and women that risk their lives in order that we may enjoy our freedom back at home. I drank a couple of pints yesterday in remembrance (today is the 12th for me).
