I do not know anybody that would want to pay and see such a momentous occasion take place with a monitor and keyboard between players.

I say lets get this event going and see if it flies or dies.
I will attend it if there will be a good prices here - at least 2,000-3,000 EURO for the 1st place. Otherwise - what is the reason of wasting time and money ? In what country event will be hold ?
I am playing checkers, not chess.

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

I think that expecting this kind of money for an online tournament is more than a bit unrealistic.
You expect an online tournament to achieve the same money or more than a QT Alex?

Just wondering if I read this correctly.

What is needed is a sponsor like Full Tilt Poker.
Imagine the cast:
Alex - J C Tran
Tommy C - Negreanu
Ingo - Phil Hellmuth

Readers can add others of their choice. (How about Tony G ? :D )

Also, of course, a good catchy signature tune/song is essential.
Like Money, Money, Money - by ABBA.

"So I must leave, I'll have to go
To Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world."

Those who know me know what I am going to say. There are two styles of online play -- live (as at Kurnik or Yahoo) and turn-based (as in It's Your Turn or Gold Token). Likewise there are two styles of offline play: crossboard and mail play. Finally, there are variants based on time per move. I merely argue for the legitimacy of different styles. I do not play at Kurnik because I like to look up moves in old books and want to take my time (i.e. go in, make one move. and come back later). So I wish the discussion qualified the two styles being discussed. I have to confess that I would bet on Alex in any real-time match (online or crossboard). But quick thinking and good memory are more important in real-time than in turn-based, where different skills might be more prevalent.

Patrick has objected that you cannot keep turn-based players honest. I simply contend that most are honest, and that many contribute significantly to the theory of the game. So I simply suggest that the term "real-time online player" and "turn-based online player" be used so that turn-based play not be automatically dismissed when dicussing checkers.

Well i tried to play him yesterday but he wouldn't play me, he played Fredo instead who is another top online player. And said he had to prepare for me and wouldn't let me watch his games.

Honestly i don't get why there's so much fuss, why should anyone have to prepare for some fun online games ? some people take this too serious and they need to relax more and enjoy playing.

Am i competitive ? yes but not overly competitive where i just think about winning all the time, i also just like to sit back and enjoy playing in the night time.

Because sometimes i comeback from lifeguard training, and im really tired. And sometimes i just like to relax.
