One error for sure I believe I found.

"PLAY WINNING CHECKERS" by Robert Pike

On page 86 see DIAGRAM 64 the solution does not make any sense to me.....

Solution is on page 101 for DIAGRAM 64 and does not seem to match the schematic.

I thought there was another diagram error, but I cannot seem to find it......

In my copy (Sterling Publishing Co., Inc, 1999, I don't know what printing) Diagram 64 is on page 86 but the solution is at the top of page 102 vice page 101.

The position,

R: 1, 5, 22, 27K
W: 7K, 13, 17, 30

Red to move, is a simple shot problem and in my copy the solution given by Mr. Pike does the trick:

5-9 13x6, 1x10 7x14, 22-26 30x23, 27x9 17-13, 9-5 RW

Image

(In the book, the diagram is flipped with Red at the bottom...).

Perhaps there is a printing error in your copy, which is a somewhat different animal than a mistake in analysis by the author.

Thanks, Danny, much appreciated. It will be interesting to see what your copy sez... .

Also, many thanks to kilroyfx for following up on this and not letting it fall through the cracks. Good on ya!

Yeah,

The positions, (meaning) the diagram is completely wrong. It seems that there are errors in this
printing of this book, which is really a bummer. I think that in this library copy there may be errors
in the printing of the diagrams....

Right you are, Tommy. Anyway, in this case I do not think it was an error by Mr. Pike; I think perhaps the edition of the book that kilroyfx has was printed incorrectly. I have the same book, Play Winning Checkers by Robert Pike, and have found no errors at all, typographic or otherwise.*

That's why I was surprised back in January when kilroyfx said he had found some.

*It would probably be more correct to say I found no obvious or blatant errors.
