Eric, we have different experience and never agree with this. Only time can judge us.

Normally, everyone should want to go up - thats what sport is about. And this should not be easy. if someone wants to go down - this is clinical medical case which should bother doctors, not us.

No, we both are common in one thing - looking up. I never look down, I am not loser and do not make myself miserable. People who wants to play in lower Division and don't dream to go up - losers.

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

I understand both your points and i agree with you both :)

if a weak player goes to a strong division all he will achieve is a string of losses and next time he/she wont be able to be in that division...

if a stronger player goes down he will get an easy win and will be promoted to next division and the weaker players will get tougher from playing someone stronger...

i do not think this is an issue at all.... definitely not an important one

Well one thing everyone should be aware of. If you drop down to a lower level to place high or win a tournament your rating might drop if those little guys get some wins or draws keep in mind. Kinda cool in a way it brings all the sandbaggers to the service once they complain lol. Billy

Well said Danny..........i think especially in national TYs it should go by ratings ,players with big ideas and no chance should not be allowed to pick.Ratings is the way forward until a player shows he is go enough to play with the big bhoys...........if draughts is to survive everyone MUST play at their own level.

Ratings have been updated to the end of July 2009, we will be finishing 2009 and starting on 2010 as soon as possible.

I am seeing a trend in rating where higher rated have been dropping lower and lower. Because of the fact that in the top 50 players the ratings go from 2500 down to around 2050.... this wide spread will start to bring everyone into a normal range. It seems many of the 2300's are not losing very much rating and even gaining rating in some tournaments. In any case it seems a 2350-2450 will be grand master level eventually... but we will see how it all pans out.

It always surprised me a bit that my rating is 300-400 points higher than ratings of many good masters. I am glad that my extra rating points are going back to American players.

I agree that 2400-2500 rating suppose to be grandmaster level.

Eric, you are doing a good jonb ! Many thanks to you and your frriend for your service.

I think when you process end of 2009-2010 I will be back to top 3 rated. But indeed I can never beat players who doesn't play much and their rating frozen.

But I am still on top of most active players. Here is list of top 10.

# Id ....... Name ............... Rtg ... Gms ...Rds ... Year

1 10157 ... MOISEYEV ALEX ... 2467 ... 310 ... 134 .. 2011
2 10107 ... STANLEY TEAL .... 2041 ... 304 ... 124 .. 2011
3 10147 ... WEBSTER JOHN R. 2308 ... 296 ... 127 .. 2011
4 10144 ... HOLMES MICHAEL. 2319 ... 288 ... 120 .. 2011
5 10024 ... WILLIAMSON TED . 1512 .. 282 ... 145 .. 2011
6 10061 ... STANLEY BILL ..... 1428 ... 278 ... 109 .. 2011
7 10098 ... SMITH J.R. ........ 1569 ... 276 ... 114 .. 2011
8 10149 ... KEEN LARRY ....... 2354 ... 272 ... 114 .. 2011
9 10142 ... MILLHONE AL ..... 2024 ... 268 ... 113 .. 2011
10 10127 . TUCKER ALBERT ... 2003 ... 262 ... 113 .. 2011

I am curious the fact that my good friend Neil Weinberg not in top 10 most active ACF players
All names are familiar and you can see these names almost in each state tournament !

The most funny thing is - 2467 rating is almost (close enough) the same as my very first ACF rating I've got in 1996 !

BTW. Eric, sorry I didn't invite you on Kurnik when I played in private room with Nick. I don't like much noise and I also was afraid that you can use my cooks against me in our World Title Match

Alex

Hi Tommy, I can agree to the fact the idea of ratings is to place people in tournaments. I can kinda see what you mean by people playing to high of a division when the skill is not there. The players that play up are really not hurting anyone more like helping. And ratings are not a good way to base a players skill. The only way to find out is to try and some players will surprise ya. And to tell players you can not play in this division cause we think your a waste of time basically in those terms can be offensive. Billy

Nationals seemed to make quite a different in a few ratings

Alex, When my friend Lavern played his first tournament in Pa and played you for the first time I believe he got a draw with you? This was a guy that had no prior experience at all with tournaments in checkers. A guy who started out playing Amish players in a vegetable stand. So if Pa had divisions and people went by what others thought as far as skill level he would not have done such a good performance with master level players cause he was new to tournaments and would of played in minors. Are you really offended or are you mad cause some of these little guys pack a punch specially on your rating. Billy

Billy, I am glad we ar on the same page with this and you understand my feelings. Yes, I am very mad and offended and all my 45 years competitive checkers experience is against this horrible things.

I am mad that players without hard working and improving can come thru the door and play in the highest Division.

This has nothing to do with some online players who belongs to Master Division. They may not play in real ty's but their level is high enough. They played for many years (some - more than 10 years) many thousand and ten's thousand games and they are not beginners indeed, and are familiar with published play and even have their own cooks.

Anyway, this is another story. We know very well - who is who. I am encouraging Fredo, Ray and Jolt come this year and play in Master Division in National. I am very confident that Nick, Eric and Chee can do well in Major and don't have to play in Minors and can skip it.

When I am saying "not belong to Master" it doesn't mean rating indeed. it means - REAL LEVEL.

Yes, you right, Eric ! You and Nick already played in real events and your level is established and known.

It's easy to speak and speculate before you play in real events. Before people know your level and can compare it with other players level - anyone can pretend and claim to play in the World Championship Match

And only after they play in real ty's we can say that they are elligible to play in kindergarten majors.
