Is there any shame in getting owned by Simplecheckers?
I have been playing Checkers on the Internet for four years and had played more than 8,000 games. Reached the 1950 rating on yahoo and am officially 2-3-5 against ACF rated master players in internet games and of which were not time wins. Can toy with yahoo players rated in the lower to mid 1800s easily.
However, Simplecheckers, one of the weakest serious checkers programs out there can whoop me almost every game in casual play (I've won a few in the past).
Is there any shame to this? I mean, Simplecheckers gets punked by GUI checkers easily who gets destroyed by Kingsrow and Cake Manchester.

Proportion - 1:6. One time be nice, 5 times normal. Start from this point and work on this number. When you get 1:1 (always nice) - stop. Otherwise you might be "too nice", which is also not so good

Alex
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Well,
In a rematch with Simplecheckers which I put more effort, I went 2-2-1

Did you record these games?
If you put them on this site for discussion and analyses we might help you to improve and beat that program in future matches
Greetinx from , finally, spring-like Dortmund, Germany

Simple Checkers is not all that bad
Simple Checkers will defeat many if not most average players. It is a lot better than you think. If you lose to it so what. Keep playing. Things will improve with practice. (So I tell myself each time I lose to Simple.)

Re: Is there any shame in getting owned by Simplecheckers?
simple checkers is child's play and very very easy to conquer, you should probably stop thinking your good by playing in yahoo because there is not one player there with any skill except James aka VO0D0O, James used to be one of the best but has been passed up and sits at a low 1500's in kurnik now. Give me his address and I will send him a dish rag... cause he is washed up. I will give you a little history lesson since you have only been around for a few years.
I believe it was 2004 when Playbuddy was released for yahoo games checkers which prompted every crappy player to use this to get wins in checkers. EVERY SINGLE good player then left yahoo after a month or so of dealing with that crap and many of them quit checkers completely. The ones who did not have the heart to give up the game sought refuge in kurnik or playok.com and since then many still have quit the game but many of us still play there. I do not know if you remember me from yahoo but I was m4d_speed the founder of team m4d and earned 2497 there in my prime BEFORE BUDDY ever existed.... of course using macros in 1 minute games though. the founder of team chaos, chaos_dreamhelper (fredo) still plays there as well as jolt, jerr, and many others.
You can find me there under the name 420 and I would be happy to catch u up to speed because the level of play we have accomplished there compared to even our yahoo days is more than 10x

Re: Is there any shame in getting owned by Simplecheckers?
The answer is NO. Difficulty is relative. To me running a sub-5 minute mile was a modest but difficult accomplishment (many years ago). Elite runners run 26.2 of those sub-5 minute miles in a row in a Marathon! While beating Simplecheckers is easy for Eric, it is difficult for me. I like the ten levels of checkers on the Thinks.com website that requires neither sign-in nor down-load. A funny thing happened to me in beating level 10. I found that I had trouble with levels 9, 8, and 7! What is the best move in checkers? Is it the most efficient move, or the move that is most effective against your opponent? --George Hay

Simple checkers is not child's play. It plays as good as a decent major in my book. No opening book and easy to get the upper hand against, but puts up a strong resistance to losing. Of course it is no match for the top players

I have to admit...I do not know what "Simple Checkers" is, but, I hit the link that George Hay provided (Thanx George !!).....
and, I have to also admit to seeing, playing against , and losing to this program when I played against it......(this thing has been around for awhile...as I remember it from a few years ago..)
I, personally, don't fell any shame......it's allllllllllllllll good .....

That depends, Mr. Hay, on whether you are looking to win the game you are currently playing, (

Jay, that is a good point! I see Checkers as a mental martial arts match, so it is to beat my opponent, or at least not lose. Dr. Emanuel Lasker, Chess World Champion and Checkerist, was famous for adjusting his game to his opponent. He was a fighter! --George Hay
P.S. Wincheck has to be set on the Master Level to beat Simplecheckers on Exact Instant!

'I have to admit...I do not know what "Simple Checkers" is,'
Jay, I'm sorry I missed your first post on this topic. Simplecheckers, or Simplech, is part of Martin Fierz's CheckerBoard. Simplech is the medium program, with Cake being the hard program, and Easych is the easy program!
http://www.fierz.ch/checkers.htm
I did mention Wincheck, that is J.B. Alemanni's Anglo-American Checkers program.
He has several programs for several forms of checkers!

Martin Fierz and J.B. Alemanni have both done outstanding work in advancing checkers.
