Bugs, you make a valid point that checkers discussion in the forum is not as active as it could be, especially when it comes to promoting and educating people about checkers. However, there are some very dedicated people that do make a contribution to discussion and actually take action on helping the ACF. It seems to me that most people who visit the ACF site are merely spectators and it would be great if we could encourage more people to join the discussion, rather than just read it.

Vonda, take easy on this ! All you need - show them your ACF 2011 membership card and get a free membership for the next coming year (or maybe just pay difference between $25 and $40).

Did you destroy 2011 card ???

All after all, I can officially prove here before ACF administration your honesty.

Are you coming to Lebanon in August to play in ACF National ? Without you we can't make 100 attendants !

Anyway, thanks for your kind words about my activity on this forum. Most forum visitors are readers and I know - even if they don't reply and/or post anything, they read everything we say here.

Checkers might be dying or not ... I don't know. But what I know exactly - I am still alive ! All I need - continue to stay in business for another 10 years and wait when Alex Holmes comes to arena of BIG LEAGUE !

Vonda, I also wish you and your family a great summer.

Regards,

your friend Alex

What do you like about checkers?: I love that the concept of checkers is so simple, yet the games have a complex beauty that comes alive during play.

Alex,

I definitely do not believe that checkers is dying. There is a large quantity of players out there. I frequent playok, yahoo, flyordie, and "Checkers Online" via my smartphone and they are always populated. I'm sure there are other sites that have the game, like Pogo or MSN where there is a population of checkers players. I think it is safe to say there are thousands of players playing via the internet. I have encountered many decent players and some very impressive ones.

I think what might be in danger, is the competitive side of the game. From my experience, the public's view of checkers isn't one of a competitive or challenging game. People know competitive chess exists, but how many really know that competitive checkers exists? I think the ACF should try to do a little more in getting the word out here in the U.S.

Announcements are made within the ACF for tournaments and results, but what is done to acquire new members? Are tournaments advertised locally to draw in new members?

Maybe I missed something but I don't see many of them around in my area (Columbus, OH).

Hello Bugs:

Did you receive any bulletins last year ? If you did not, did you ever contact me about missing bulletins? Your membership expired last month.

If you feel you were cheated, please let me know what your ACF can do to make it right ?

Anytime you pay in cash, simply ask for a written receipt :-)

For 1.50 more you an use the ACF online store and pay your dues online.

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

I was referring to the quantity of people I have witnessed playing Checkers online. I'll agree to the point that Checkers players are sparsely populated. The closest one to me that I know of is Ryan (45 minute drive away.)

I don't see people playing Checkers in the park. However, I do not see them playing Chess, Othello or Backgammon either. I have slight envy of the players down in NC who meet up every week to play at the local McDonalds!

bugs wrote:I know this is a busy time for most people but I was wondering what has happen to this ACF site? Seem there are very few that have anything to post or say..Although I am very happy I don`t have to read about the fights going on between some people. Alex M. is about the only one that post anything.. Another thing, has everybody lost intrest in the ACF? I am beginning to myself.. Why?

i will make two points.... and i beg your forgiveness beforehand.... 1 of them will be positive and 1 will be negative....

a) it is very easy to make mistakes when one DOES things.... and we are all human.... if our leaders make mistakes we should let them know privately and i am sure they would be happy to rectify them.... when one watches , one sees all mistakes when one DOES things you MAKE mistakes, but you also do a lot of good which oftentimes goes unrewarded and unnoticed...

b) as a long time lurker (someone who reads but never posts) i decided to take the plunge and i started posting in 2010.... to be honest with you, i kind of regret it now.... there are certain people here, Mr Moiseyev being the principal one, who cannot tolerate anyone else's opinions. According to the champ, anyone who talks about anything other than his prized title, himself, or who dares mention anything that is not to his liking should shut up and or delete his comments. you want to find out why people don't bother posting.... LOOK :)

both those points are truths.... they are beyond opinions....
good day to you Vonda and i hope you don't let others steal your passion for checkers away

Danny Alvarez

PS I quoted Mr Moore because i agree with him that perhaps we should concentrate on promotion and education about the game.... but beware Mr Moore "promotion" is a dirty word for Mr Moiseyev, mention it again and you shall incur his wrath.

Promotion is only worth mentioning with Mr Moiseyev Danny if it benefits him in money and prestige. Otherwise not worth talking about on here.
