Checker conversation worth mentioning...

Post by JR Smith »

Alan Millhone email me yesterday saying he had a couple of players at 2013 Ohio Open that were asking him about the next 11-Man Tournaments :-)

I responded...

Lately I've notice an increased interest in this variation of openings, particularly the Masters and more experienced players.

If you remember, back in the spring of 2007 you mentioned we should have an 11-Man National; you were attended Lowder's funeral in Albemarle on January 13, 2007, although he died on December 14, 2006. It's grown ever since, kind of like a re-birth of Banks / Lowder.

I will leave it here for discussion and for more input from the forum. Do you want a National next year? When would you like it scheduled? What locations: Lebanon, TN? Greensboro, NC? another venue? Give me an idea who will participate?

We are still working on the current WCM scheduled between Moiseyev & Laverty. I will visit with Tim and see how he is improving. I called today but he was at the hospital, he is suppose to call me back.

I would love to play in some more 11-man ballot nationals and state tournaments. There may be a USA vs. South Africa match next year from the 15 of February through the following week so the middle of February would force some players to decide if it is the 11-man or South Africa event they want to participate in, one or the other. I could also suggest having it to include a holiday and a weekend so as to not take away to much time from those who work. Obviously these are just suggestions. Assuming five days are needed here are some dates just looking at a calendar:
January 2-6th,
January 16th-20th,
March 27th-31st.

If no sports events interfer then Alex Holmes could attend the January 2-6th and the March 27-th through 31st. I also believe the last 11-man was only 4 days which may be preferable this time too.

Tell Tim that we hope he gets better soon.
