About Blackburne's skill at draughts (checkers), Draughts Review December 1924 gave an opinion on that. To make a long story short, it seems that there is almost no evidence that Blackburne had much skill at draughts.

Once again, thanks for doing more excellent research and posting this new HNP game and all the others as well, Jim.

Always exciting to see anything by Pillsbury (my favorite chess player) and Marshall as well. These games are a real conduit to the history of our game (and chess, too, of course). Great stuff.

Alas, I don't think we produce unique players like those two anymore; too bad; different world...sigh.

Mr. E. Lasker, chess champion of the world, stated some time ago that he had been looking up draughts, and intended to enter the next tournament for the championship of England if held in London. It is, however, feared that the challenge he has accepted from M. Janowski for the chess championship will prevent him attempting to add to his name the title of draughts champion of England.
