Once again, thanks for doing more excellent research and posting this new HNP game and all the others as well, Jim.jimloy wrote:Some more Pillsbury games
Always exciting to see anything by Pillsbury (my favorite chess player) and Marshall as well. These games are a real conduit to the history of our game (and chess, too, of course). Great stuff.
Alas, I don't think we produce unique players like those two anymore; too bad; different world...sigh.
Much appreciated.

Re: Multi-gamers in history
Dear All,
Wishing you a Happy New Year! On the subject of Newell Banks, Harry Pillsbury and Chinook, I have a letter appearing in Chess Magazine in February 2014. This magazine has always been very generous on the subject of checkers/draughts and the latest letter will represent something like my 10th contribution over the years.

Re: Multi-gamers in history
Individual issues of Chess Magazine are available in the USA
from Chess4Less.com. I received two issues in the post today.
One for chess, Jan 2014 for the Carlsen vs Anand match,..and
one for checkers/draughts, Feb 2014 for the Richard Pask letter.
Good on Pask for presenting a positive view of checkers/draughts
to chess players.

Australian Town and Country Journal, 14 October 1899:
Mr. E. Lasker, chess champion of the world, stated some time ago that he had been looking up draughts, and intended to enter the next tournament for the championship of England if held in London. It is, however, feared that the challenge he has accepted from M. Janowski for the chess championship will prevent him attempting to add to his name the title of draughts champion of England.
