Unusual error by DEO

Continue: 6-10 23-18 (said to lose by DEO); 5-9 13-6; 10-15 25-21!; 1-10 18-14; 10-17 21-14 and all is well!

The later win DEO shows is beautiful, but I'm sure he would have been stunned by this.

Richard, based on your fine post, I composed a problem where me and Derek will be co-authors. Derek contributed to main variation, I added variations "A" and "B" and handle setting. As you see - this position is "twine" to original Derek position with man on 26 instead 25. But now this excellent tactical idea works !

If anyone wants to re-publish this problem, they must to refer to Richard article and my post and solution and authors must be printed exactly as I did.

Alex, I'm delighted that my post has elicited your fascinating response.
I really think the original position presents a form of optical illusion, because, at first glance, the 'double exposure' looks like a killer. Incidentally, DEO analysed this 'win' in detail in his 1964 MS, so he had looked over it really carefully. All the best, and I hope you're feeling well. RJP

Thanks, William! Yes, this order of moves also is possible in this position and can be added to solution. Continue from diagram:

30-25, 6-10, 28-24?, 10-15, 25-21, 12-16, 21-17 and now into variation "C' and DEO win: 15-18, 23x14, 1-6+.

Fine position which combines a lot of different ideas with different order of moves.
