Re: Aurora Borealis Draughts promo coupon
I am bugging him a lot lately about setting white on the bottom in straight checkers as a default in positions
Re: Aurora Borealis Draughts promo coupon
Please make a comment about how useful this program is. What is your experience using it, and is it needed over the checkerboard program? I posted an email I got from Don Brattin in general information on ACF forum about a Aurora Borealis Draughts promo coupon for this program.

Re: Aurora Borealis Draughts promo coupon
I assume the question is for me.
Prior to Aurora I used a program named TDam or TurboDambase, also a great one but it did not have the modern Pool checkers version.
I never used other programs so can not compare but will describe the Aurora.
It does have a playing engine on all game variants, it solves puzzles easily for example, but this is not why I like it - my main usage is to store games and positions and be able to generate html to view them on line. But the games themselves teach little, you need to be able to record comments and other lines not played but possible - that is the true objective!
But Aurora goes much further - you can find games by a position - set a position and it will find all games where that position happened during a play, or as a starting position! You can also sort records many ways, fix names and titles, copy selections to other databases. There is more but of no interest to me.
Also important is that Mr. Svirin listens and responds to user wishes, and normally he finds brilliant solutions.
You saw me generate thousands of World Title games in the OCL library and illustrate books with animated positions, so already benefited from Aurora.
The English is not best but quite understandable, and the program pretty mature.

Thanks JR, I appreciate the commendation, and I know you listed the OCL library as a recommended resource on your site. Sadly usacheckers.com does not recommend it.JR Smith wrote:Thanks Jake, your comments were most helpful.
