Need your input on a Checker Magazine

Post by kim willis 57 »

Hi to all checker players,

My husband is a chess player and he gets Chess Life a magazine. I thought since I have been covering the ACF Tournaments that should see how many of you would like a Checker Magazine. This would be in full colored pages with pictures and with some help from masters, majors, minors, youth interviews. I believe this could be a great start to bring our game up to date.

Each and everyone of us has a story we could tell the possibilities are great to make a magazine like Chess has.

Comments are welcome so are ideas

Kim, lets do 1st magazine issue and see what happened - cost itself, quality, sales, expanses etc. After then it will be more clear - whether we have issue #2 or not :D

I remember Draughts Razoo. It was short-lived but wonderful.

I'm old-fashioned and I love print media. (I currently subscribe to two print newspapers.) A print edition of a checker magazine? Great!

Of course this is not to overlook the print newsletters that exist today, which are excellent and serve a definite purpose. But there are only a handful of them, and a real magazine would be a wonderful addition.

And this from someone who has been publishing electronically for nearly 12 years. Great irony!

What do you like about checkers?: I like checkers programming, most notably Perfect Play Databases for the endgame.

There's a name I had not heard for a long time. I seem to recall someone named Nick contacting me and asking me something about one of the Doctor openings. I think it was the White Doctor.

I have the first issue of Draughts Razoo for download on my site. I think there were two more after that. It was edited and published by Nick McBride.

A Magazine for Checkers would be great.
while I don't think it would be hard at all to find reknown contributors, I am afraid the number of subscribers will not be as high as it is for chess and it is a full-time job to write, edit snd print a magazine.
If anyone would bear that task, I would gladly subscribe and would like to contribute regularly with results, tournament reports for free.

Kim,

If you can send your address I'll send you a current copy of the English Draughts Association Journal and the Lancashire Checkers newsletter.
