USA vs Italy 3-moves International match.

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I am glad and proud to make preliminary announcement.

WHAT: 2nd Trophy Oreste Persico (1st International 3-moves Match USA vs Italy)

WHERE: The Match would be held inside the famous "Villa Borghese". Hospitality in the Olympic Training Center of Italian National Olympic Committee in Rome

WHEN: April 20, 2018 (arrival) - April 26 (Departure). I think (still TBD) we'll have Opening Ceremony and 1st round on April 21, 2 rounds on April 22-24, last (8th) round and closing ceremony on April 25.

HOW: Each team consists of 8 members: 6 mans + 1 woman + 1 youth. We'll play on 8 boards - the same format similar to ones we played in the past against UK & I team. Woman and youth from each team will play against all players of opponent team as any other member of team.

Alternative players: More likely we will have 1 alternative player in each team.

Time control: TBD

Press and Internet coverage: TBD

WHY: this match will have great promotional and patriotic values in both countries along with sport values. Today Anglo-American Draughts get a very good boom and is growing in Italy, but in other hands - not all good players in USA passed away or retire yet! :D This match will help us to learn which team is doing better as-of-today, but most important - raise more interest and publicity to our old, fashion game in our countries. I personally also hope to see new faces here and meet new friends.

Financing: in general USA team will be responsible for transportation (air tickets) and FID will be responsible for hospitality and food. There will be a spot in "ACF Story" for donations and I also have some other promotional and fundraising ideas.

All for now

Stay on for more news.

What do you like about checkers?: I love the simplicity/complexity of the game. I became interested in the game as a child playing with my grandfather. Then studied checkers more in depth as a late teenager, but got away from the game for a while. Recently I have gotten my excitement back for the game. I'm working hard to improve my game. I hope to enter an ACF tournament in 2017. I check the forums daily and would like to interact with the other players. Thanks!

Richard

Here is link to donation page on ACF Store for International match USA vs Italy

http://www.usacheckers.com/store/index. ... uct_id=106

Please, support the entire event and specifically USA team to cover transportation, hospitality and food expanses.

We (ACF & FID) greatly need your support, wanted and highly appreciate it! Be part of history. This is first match among our countries. Our traditional matches against UK & I ended ten years ago and chances they materialize again are not very big. Last time (2006) USA team won this match by very high margin. Match with Italy will restore this great tradition of International matches and keep them alive.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Moiseyev

This is fantastic, I can only hope it gets sufficient publicity in the US media, as it could be a huge boost for checkers.

It is not a final version but probably 99% close.

USA team:

01. K. Wills (woman)
02. A. Holmes (youth)
03. A. Moiseyev
04. J. Morrison
05. R. Beckwith
06. M. Holmes
07. C. Nash
08. R. Pronk
09. C. Freeman (alternate #1)
10. T. Laverty (alternated #2)

Unfortunately J. Moore, R. Hallet, L. Keen, J. Webster and J. Schwartz were unable to make it for personal and health conditions. However, all after all - we definitely have very strong, golden, Win-Win team and I am cautious optimist about upcoming match!

FID presentative Carlo Bordini sent me list of Italy team members, but asked to delay public delivery because it is not final yet.

Many thanks to all USA team donors and contributors!

I was also selected as a player for team USA, but unfortunately, due to my cancer treatment I was unable to participate. I am very disappointed I can't play for team USA, but I will be rooting for you guys from afar. Hopefully I will kick this cancer out of me soon and will be able to represent team USA the next time we have this opportunity. Go team USA!

Ohh ... Yes, indeed. Joe was on team, wanted to go and he was very valuable member of US team whom it was not easy to replace.

It was very bad day and unpleasant surprise for me when Joe emailed me he can't make trip due to treatment. It wasn't an easy task for me as captain to replace Joe and finally I decided to invite both alternate players - Chuck Freeman and Tim Laverty.

I wish Joe fast and easy recovery and hope we have him on team in our next match. Italians already asked me - where and when in USA we want to have next match !! I like this optimism :D

I am very honored that I was selected for the team. In separate emails I sent Alan, JR, and moiesyev emails stating I could not attend due to work conflict. This was a couple of months ago. I have been so busy I haven't thought about it since. It seems my emails did not get through (or read?). I cant get into my yahoo email. bummer. Anyway, I wish I could go to Italy to represent the USA but I can not. I hope to play in the TN though.

Michael, thanks for confirmation! We (me and Richard) already heard this from Alex and contact with "next in line" player on our list - Mark Sokolovsky. More likely he will be able to travel to Italy and attend event.

I will post information here when it will be finalize.

I am sorry to hear that you can't play, but rumors which I heard say that you've got very good new job ... ? If so - congratulations and good luck with your career.

Thanks Moiseyev. I transferred here last year in June. I live in MS but work in the New Orleans District for the Army Corps of Engineers. It is the same agency as before but a new position. I have a school I am going to during the same time as the match. I will be playing in the TN though. Although I have not studied a lot ( I did do some studying when I thought I was going to be in the match) I will play in the Masters. Alex Holmes is the one that told me you and Dr. Beckwith were trying to get in touch with me. I hope Mark plays well.

I hope our team wins. I am sure the sight seeing will be really nice and the people there will be really friendly. I am hoping to get in a position to travel more often for pleasure rather than for work. Maybe next year I can travel or maybe late this year if the have the Barbados (WQT) tournaments in November.

I can confirm officially now that Michael Holmes was replaced by Mark Sokolovsky (Cleveland) and his pairing was rescheduled.

All USA players already bought tickets to Rome.

We are on final way.

More news are coming!
