Final Score after Round Eight:

After both teams enjoyed a special dinner after the 7th round, the match again returned to the Earth Day Festival in the Villa Borghese.
Both teams were confident and in fighting spirit.

After first games had been played, Chuck Freeman and Clayton Nash scored for thr USA, but Elia Cantatore, Sergio Scarpetta and Dario Ghittoni scored for Italy, so that now the score was exactly tied.

In the second games only US veteran Chuck Freeman and Italy’s youth champion Elia Cantatore scored wins for their teams. All other games were drawn after hard fights, but in the very last game the italian World Champion Sergio Scarpetta played a long ending with american Mark Sokolovsky.
Finally, Sergio managed to get Mark into a difficult bridge ending and Mark found no defense. His resignation concluded the match, and finally Italy won by the closest margin possible.

A great victory ceremony with extensive media coverage on a stage in front of a big crowd marked the end of a historic match. All players, the organizers and the referee agreed that a second chapter of the USA-Italy friendship and their rivalry on the board should be written on the other side of the ocean.

The individual scores were as follows:

Italy
---------
Viviana Moretto 5/28 = 18 percent
Elia Cantatore 12/28 = 43 percent
Sergio Scarpetta 24/32= 75 percent

Emanuele D'Amore 17/32 = 53 percent
Daniele Berte 14/24 = 58 percent
Luca Iacovelli 3/12 = 25 percent
Dario Ghittoni 6/12 = 50 percent

Alex Holmes 16/28 = 57 percent
Alex Moiseyev 21/28 = 75 percent, including a win over Sergio Scarpetta

Ryan Pronk was the only American player who had Matteo Bernini in loss (but missed a win) and this means something. It looks like I was the only one among 22 players from both teams who didn't lose any game and haven't being in loss. My total score was 50% - 7 wins and 7 draws. I think as-of-now I am ready and well suited for upcoming main events this year - USA National 3 moves in Las Vegas, September and WQT on Barbados in October.

Great time, great games, great people. It is truly a great honor and pleasure for me that my long time "pet project" became to reality and was materialized ! This match proved and disapproved many things. It also have great, fantastic promotional value. People make difference. If I will be still alive and active - next (2nd) USA vs Italy match will be in USA in 2021-2022. Stay on for more news!

Below is text of game which I won against Sergio in 1st round. When I ran it thru JKingsrow I just find out that there were several inaccuracies for both players by missing wins a draw. I just diagrammed couple interesting moments during the game.

A. 30-26 is much stronger reply.

B. See diagram #1. I missed a win here 31-27*

C. Final error from World Champion. See diagram #2. Red still had a see-saw draw here by not going 17-21, but instead playing 1-6 and then 9-13-9 and white can't crush this block!

Right, I am currewntly processing the games and will deliver them to the federations and captains first, so they can sent them to the players.
I will also write a short report of the match and it will be published here and at Igor Martynovs site.

I hope eventually the FID and ACF write a tournament book of this unique event.

Not only was it the first Italy-USA match, the, 2° Trofeo Oreste Persico and a new chapter in
international Matches, but also a very challenging match under unsual conditions, but played with great sportmanshiop and it was nailbiter from the beginning to the end. Each game, indeed every move literally made a difference this time.
