What do you like about checkers?: I like that Thomas Jefferson got the phrase 'All Men Are Created Equal' from the 1756 William Payne book on 'Draughts' aka Checkers. If you're want more info on that Jefferson-Checkers connection then check out my recent amazon review of Payne's book. You folks could elevate the status of Checkers just by telling people about the Checkers connection to the most famous 5 word quote in history. You should consider publishing your own approved version of Payne's book for fundraising purposes 'cuz that book is likely to go viral.

George Hay, there was something inexplicably odd about a “Checkers for Dummies” book. A disturbing undercurrent within the math-force where the title itself makes absolutely no sense mathematically, even though on the surface there’s no problem with the title at all.

Consider the possibility of two learning models: teacher-student versus master-apprentice. A dummies’ book fits in with the teacher-student model but not the master-apprentice model of learning.

The t-s learning model is single-directional linear. Not a left-right time-line, but a time-ray with a starting point then arrowing outward. When taken to three dimensions it’s like a laser beam of photons travelling in parallel. Arrows bundled together within a moving continuum as in a quiver of the universe and mind.

The master-apprentice learning model is far more checkers-like. A spray of 4-ray-like segments spreading outwards at right angles to each other. The outermost end of each segment star-bursting into 4 more segments, and so on. Thusly, totally engulfing the entire space of the universe and mind with a 3 dimensional lattice work of discrete paths and well-defined destinations.

That’s likely why a Dummies book for checkers just won’t work where a Smarties book would. And a Smarties book for chess won’t work but a Dummies book for chess would.
