Can't help but feel for those people in Christchurch. I guess from what you say it been a long road to recovery and sounds like they still have a long ways to go.
I do enjoy reading Jim's blog posts, sounds like he had a bit of a rough day but what would an adventure be if everything went smoothly? Would return home and not have any good stories for the telling when he gets old.

CHECKERS: The Mind Sport of Kings and Ordinary Men.
Thanks to Mac Banks who assisted Jim in his hour of need, and also to the very honest american who found Jims credit cards and Ipad. There are some fine people out there.
Good question, John! I knew that name sounded familiar! Sturgis, South Dakota, USA, home of the
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, is named after General Samuel D. Sturgis. Sturgis (1822-1889) was a career officer in
the U.S. Army, and a Civil War General on the Union (North) side. I don't know if General Sturgis ever played General Ulysses S. Grant in checkers.

Half a million bikers show up for this great event, where anything goes apparently.Hells Angels make it an annual event also, in the north dakota hills.

Well Jim has made it out of Sturgess in one piece,sci- fi connections have been terrible there, altho hes managed to post a few cooments and photos.Hes truly been taken aback with the wonderful and hospitable support the American people have given him along the way, truly caring people.Hes on the way to yellowstone park now, hope you guys are enjoying his ramblings, regards jan
How much longer will Jim and his friends be here before heading home? End of this week? I tried to leave a comment on Jim's blog but cannot.
How about you adding Jim's blog address to the end of your posts so as to make it easy for everyone to keep up with his travels.
I have to admit to being a bit envious of Jim and his friends, I have always wanted to travel and see the western U.S. and have not been able to make it happen but am glad for Jim and his friends that they are having this experience.
Jims over there until sept 3rd.Hes going to salt lake city next.Coolkiwii55 gets his blog anyway, just putting that in.He tried to get onto this site to say Hullo, but found it hard to do so.No-one can add to his blog unfortunately,i suppose he was afraid of crackpot comments on it,so didnt allow it.But hes pleased you are all taking an interest. He was on skype with me before, and is talking about another tour 2013 over there. He loves your country.

"Today we left Jackson. A good ride out but for the last 3 days there has been this haze all around the mountains from the big fires in Idaho and Montana, this has been the hottest and driest summer they have had since records were started.
Great ride out through the mountains then we hit desert and it went on and on with a few towns here and there, one we came to had a pop of 1400 people but there were about 5 multicomplex hotels there. Why anyone would stay there we havent a clue"...............
Can anyone enlighten us poor kiwis on why you would have huge hotels in the desert?
