Women's World Freestyle Championship
Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
William,I have wanted an independant enquiry for a long time over this affair, but the wcdf have clothed all in silence. If Hoja is allowed to do to any woman contender what he did to me, then womens checkers is finished , .At the moment im collating all the emails. To me the only fair way would be to examine them all from an unbiassed person's standpoint. To me thats right and fair, any side can make up what they want otherwise.
I would be most happy if this were to happen, regards jan

In sum if this is not done then we will clearly see who is poking the stick in the wheel.
In reply to this post , I would hope that replies from Jan , WCDF representitive , and Hoja be forthcoming as soon as possible

In the name of human decency, human justice, and the preservation and survival of womens' checkers, I would like to reiterate and reaffirm my full support for an independent inquiry and a fair and just decision in regard to this affair.

I don't quite agree that closing this thread is the right course of action.
In my opinion, it would send the wrong message that the Women's World Freestyle Championship Match, including the controversies which have surrounded it, would be a taboo subject that is not supposed to be discussed.
If this thread is closed, would this mean that if another thread devoted to the discussion of the Women's World Freestyle Championship Match is created, then it would be immediately closed as well?
In my opinion, this subject should not be prohibited from discussion.
In accordance with my belief that a grave human injustice has occurred, one which threatens the very survival of womens' checkers, I feel very strongly that this subject is too important not to be discussed.
My suggestion would be to take any and all tangential arguments and topics, including racism, politics, dark humor, and so on, to the "Broken Boards" Forum, which is specifically described for the purpose of "Discussion about all things non-checkers."
Very Sincerely,
Dennis Cayton

Today Western civilization is dominated in the world, but things are going to be change. Asian culture is more familily oriented, and more collective. Western culture is individual and more aggressive. If this insult you and other people, then you should probably try to change things.

Dear Dennis,
I didn't create all this most recent tread. I had some statement in my previous post abvout Asian culture which was inside statement regarding Ladies 3-moves match. You took it out, commented, but when you've got response back, you said - "Lets stop".

Having recognized my own complicity in this discussion, and in order to end any further duplicity from my end, I proposed that this discussion should be stopped on this forum and be resumed elsewhere.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
There were many references and critics in this topic to WCDF and in particular - WCDF Executive Committee. I really don't know if it was any bad thing which were not committed to this body - wrongdoing, taken sides, incompetency, etc.
But this is not a hidden, secret organisation and we need to know names of our heroes whom we accuse. Lets be honest and name all these people, so we can look at their faces next time when we meet them.
1. Hugh Devlin, Ireland, President
2. Richard Beckwith, USA, Vice-President
3. John Reade, England, Secretary,
4. Ian Caws, England, Treasury,
5. Sean Phillips, Ireland, Competition Director
6. Ingo Zachos, Germany, Publicity Officer
Sixth from four countries. To the best of my knowedlges (correct me, if I am wrong) at least five of them voted non-annonimously to accept Jan resignation.
We all know them - this is collection of honorable, respectable people, most of them are in checkers business for decades, very experienced - some organized world level events and participated in negotiations.
All of them had a chance to review all correspondence and their decision were not based on rumors circulated on this forum. Accusing them in wrongdoing things is very serious thing.
After decision was made, it was reviewed and approved by General Assembly - another 10-12 people and/or proxy, non from the list above.
Asking an independent review looks line an attempt by any price to overstate decision made.
And who may be an independent person in this situation ??? Perhaps someone who has nothing to do with checkers, doesn't know anything and anyone. Because if we start to look someone in checkers community, (s)he more likely already have opinion and view on this story.
By the way, returning to our bad guys. I am wondering - who in particular on this list took sides: Hugh, John, Richard, Ian, Ingo, Sean or all of them ? Be honest guys - just give a name(s), don't foul around. Are you a man or clown ?
If we are talking about Ladies Checkers, we have to remember our World Champion - Amangul Durdyeva from Turkmenistan. She was, in my eyes, the most victim of this story and didn't get any appologises (In 2007 WCDF appologised against me). Amangul had privelegy to play match to defend her title, and this privelegy was revoked. Who is in charge ???
This is my last post in this topic.
Respectfully,
Alex Moiseyev

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
I am so pleased Alex that you have declared that is your last post. For too long you have manipulated and twisted the truth, and so its a real relief that you are now silent on the matter.Ive never stated the WCDF committee were a secret organization,i did however state that this issue has been wrapped in silence by them.
I never resigned! What ever gave you that idea?Another untruth to add to your collection. The committee voted on forfeiting me
Quote - "We all know them-this is a collection of honourable, respectable people, most of them are in checkers business for decades, very experienced.... etc etc"
They are also very busy men who have not time to wade through hours of correspondence. And some of them Knew what the real story was, but kept silent.Which is very dishonourable.
Are you also saying that respectable men like Liam Stephens,Lindus Edwards,Mac Banks,Tommy Canning,Wilma Wolveton,Dennis Cayton,William Dogherty and the list goes on,are fools, and dont know what they are talking about?Lindus and LIam have read all correspondence both sides and have put their reputations on the line and spoken what is honest and true.
In fact at the G.A. Sean Phillips proposed a very sensible solution. A playoff next year between Wilma Wolveton,Amangul and me.
The truth is that it was easier to forfeit me,a woman from New Zealand who did not have a powerful checker organization behind me,than forfeit the real culprit of this deal Amangul and her father. And i wonder what really happened with the mongolian bid. Richard Beckworth said it all really, Hoja was too difficult to deal with, and the WCDF committee were too weakknee'd to stand up to him.
I see no victim in Amangul Durdyeva. She can hold that crown for years and the WCDF will allow Hoja to dictate all terms, making it impossible to get a challenge going.so wheres the apology to her?
"And who may be an independant person in this situation"?There are plenty of idependant and fairminded people in the checker community who would read the correspondence without biasse,as there are some alex, that cannot be bought.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
I usually do not post but i am now..............
I remember back years ago when i started playing i can say i wasn't even to the level of challenging for any title match. But i wanted to see women come into the game of checkers. For i never seen any women i was the only one trying to learn this game and be good enough to compete.
As i see it in the past years women started competing and playing and title matches were been played but not at the level as suki or alex but they were playing title matches.
This is bothering me very much because if we are going to promote checkers shouldn't we being promoting youth and women?
I know there now is controversy on women title matches now.And i keep thinking what if someday i am one to challenge will this happen to me? That is a question i have to ask myself.I see here now jan not being able to play Amungul, the Mongolian woman not playing Amungul or Wilma. This is upsetting for the womans checker world and for others who may come up to challenge. What do we do? How do we solve this?
I want everyone to know that I am not being negative but very concern about this and how this will look down in the future matches or World Qualifiers.
This is only my view on this subject and i hope that this does not keep women from playing in competitions.I will continue to play tho and hopefully keep learning and improving. And i hope women in this game continue to play too.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Lately, I seem to have a habit of offending people, so here I go again. The two Women's World Championships are a joke (or two jokes). This is not because of any lack of checkers abilities (the top women can certainly defeat me with no effort). Amangul Durdyeva has two World Titles, but has only played eight published games, as far as I know (eight games in the 2005 Prague Qualifier). Apparently the games of her 3-move match with Patricia Breen are still secret. That is ridiculous. I repeat, the two Women's World Championships are a joke.

I believe some, at least, of the Breen v Durdyeva games were published in Hugh Devlin's NWDF Newsletter.

I have to agree with you Kim! and hi to all my checker friends. The way the ACF and other checker organizations have in the past and currently treating youth and women is simply DISGRACEFUL! Period! Worth repeating...Disgraceful!! As I think back of all the young players I have had the great pleasure of watching progress to master level and competed at master levels in completion it gives me pause to be pround of them. I remember well how proud I was when Clayton traveled abroad and won world youth title. I also remember with great disappointment how Clint was treated when he helped design this very forum. What a absolute disgrace that episode was. Our sport does not have many youth and women showing any interest and it is a absolute wonder that any at all are still playing competitively after watching what goes on at real tours and in these forums!!!!! We take ourselves WAY TO SERIOUS. World title??????? of what?????? MAYBE 200 to 500 active players world wide???? HAHAHA. I want to take time here to think young players like John Acker(sorry john for posting your name wrong), who weather the stupidity that is shown in our community and still work to improve the sport. As far as I am concerned, If our title holders act as many do here they should be striped of their title for unsportsmanlike like behavior. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard. no exceptions! It is obvious that our sport caters almost exclusively to the top 10 players. Don't believe that? Then look at the money payout in the top tours. It's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY to the top players. IF it was not then they would be campaigning for different payouts at tours...they are not! I have not played in tours in last few years because of the childishness displayed in tours and in checker organizations. What a uphill battle people like Gene Ellison at Ill has promoting the game. Another problem I see is trying to work with ACF which has no power to speak of at all. We Should start on the state level and build a organization from there. By the way, Where Is The Money that the ACF has at? and who is controlling it??????? while ago someone "took?" money from some state and there was a big stink about it but I have not seen any updates on that situation. Money and who control it and updates on it SHOULD be a REGULAR occurrence but all I see is that the top players use it for their travel expenses and payouts. Dang shame it not used to promote youth and women and to promote the game. WE AS PLAYERS HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. What a sad state of affairs checkers in.... by the way John, my spelling is only as good as spell check is here..hehe

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Thank you. Hugh Devlin sent me the 16 Durdyeva - Breen games. And apparently, other copies are on the way. That is still not very many games. Amangul should be getting experience in tournaments, and showing us that she's a real champion.
