What do you like about checkers?: .....

USA Open 1990 nostalgia.

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I have an ACF Bulletin in front me, and tears are coming through my eyes. Here is what I read :

1) Master Division, 34 entries, Prize Fund - $11,000

2) Major Division, 40 entries, Prize Fund - $5,000

3) Minor Division, 56(!) entries, Prize Fund - $3,850

4) Youth Division, 13 entries, Prize Fund - $150

Due to inflation, all money perhaps must be doubled today. The only progress we have this year - Prize Fund for the Youth Division. The number of players and money in all other divisions seriously dropped.

Respectfully,

 Alex as you well know most players only play checkers for the enjoyment that they experience across the board. So for them why pay for something that you get for nothing? And secondly nobody in their right mind is going to want to contribute monies to any checker event and then come here on the ACF Forum to read all of the negative rhetoric that is continously exchanged on almost a daily basis between its members. "You don't bite the hand that you expect to feed you Alex". I can personally attest to the fact that people do give monies very generously (and lots of it) to positive checker causes, but one does not turn around and make asinine ignorant remarks (which unfortunately transpires here on the ACF Forum far to often) about those contributors if you expect any help from them in the future. "Inky"
