THE VEGAS CLUB GETS THE 2008 NATIONALS

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Checker/Draughts Players:

The following was sent to me for posting today by Gerry Lopez. Gerry and his Wife just returned from two days in Vegas negotiating for a hotel and playing room.

" The VEGAS CLUB in downtown Las Vegas across the street fro mthe Plaza will be the venue for this year's 3 move National from July 21 thru 25. Rates have gone up in Las Vegas this year but we were able to get a special room rate of only $48 total for players at the Vegas Club. Also Friday and Saturday rates for July 18, 19 and Friday and Saturday July 25, 26 will be only $55. That's a great deal ! Two players can share a room and cut the already low room rate by half. We have booked 40 rooms so players should get in their reservations before June 15th. to make sure they take advantage of the special $48 rate. The difference in the above two rates is that free playing rooms are no longer available. To make your reservation , call the central reservation # : 1-800-634-6575 and tel lthe myou want to place your reservation at the VEGAS CLUB (not the Plaza) and make sure to mention the Anerican Checker Federation special rate. We expect this event to attract the best players in the world. There will be three divisions as usual: Masters, Majors, Minors.

This year the youth tourney " Arthur Niederhoffer Youth Tournament " will be held on July 19 and 20.

For the first time ever the National wil lbe followed by the 9th. District Open (the Western States Championship) which wil ltake place on Sunday, July 27 and Monday July 28 and perhaps July 29 if a playoff is needed for the championship . All three events will take place at the Vegas Club. Let's all try t omake this one of the biggest Nationals ever to show people that checkers is a thriving game. Players have asked about the price of food in Las Vegas. Las Vegas , one of the top tourist attractions in the world, is without a doubt the least expensive attraction in the world when it comes to food. In downtown Las Vegas you can eat a buffet luncheon fit for a king for $8. For those on a tight budget there are plenty of fast food restaurnats in the area. Food is inexpensive because the hotels want to attract players to their gambling tables so we can thank the gamblers for the lowest food prices in the world at a great tourist attraction, Bon appetit ! -----Gerry Lopez

I was just the other nite in the local "bar" telling my friends that same story ...of a buffet almost as long as our main st. laden with all the foods of the world watever your taste for $7.70, as much as you could eat plus, followed by a "sweet"(ice cream /jelly) of many choices and a soft drink to boot, and helpful service staff...(and a doggy bag for later?).......excellent !!

Long live Las Vegas.........VIVA VIVA Las Vegas!! Viva to Gerry!!

Hey Danno12! It is too early in the year for me to know. But if I go or have someone to represent GoldToken that can be there, I will be sure to post it here.

Very likely, Tommy.
Must have been the effect of all that gravy.

I love the sea, I love the navy
Love my biscuits soaked in gravy
But pretty little black eyed Susie

Cross my heart I love ya best of all.

Very good Liam.......this one could be used as an end-game prayer which we all could do with anytime!!

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by."

JohnAcker wrote:Alan, will there be an extra charge this year to help cover the playing room, or is that included in the price quoted above? Thanks.
John, I don't think so. According ACF BY-LAWS this suppose to be a part of bid. No extra charges for players.
