I would be honored to referee; however, I'm sure there are others more qualified.
I will say I have a love for 11-Man Ballot and it’s my wish this style of checkers become more popular amongst professional players. It is superior to 3-Move and most interesting and exciting form of our game. It should be recognized and highly respected by the professional checker playing fraternity. The Eleven Man Ballot is the true test of an accomplished cross-board player's checker aptitude and ability to visualize. (It separates the men from boys!) I liken 3-Move to Mail Checkers, they are twin sisters - book knowledge and memory. This is not mint to start a flame war, just an opinion.
Yes, definitely would accept with the reservation that rules are outlined so I have a judiciary basis. We can use Beckwith's outline and players should expand on that.

Re: 11 man ballott WCM, 2008
Hi, JR !
Either me and Tim have long professional experience and can handle things anyway. I also don't anticipate any kind of serious conflict and hope your "referee life" will be easy
The only important thing is: due to title vacant status, we have to get agreement about tie-break procedure.
Few more comments ...
1) Experience only comes from experience ! If you don't have a chance to move ahead - how you can get experience ? Being a Referee of this match will definetely put you on another level of professionalism ! We need more experienced Referees in WCDF and ACF.
2) Along with referring match you may have other obligations
- in particular: helping me and Tim with communications regards contract, and setting dates and time.
3) For the time now I propose to leave a question about prize fund / bid / venue behind and just start the process.
4). Please, ask Tim if he is OK with your candidacy and ready to play match around July 4 ... lets say July 3-6, from Thursday to Sunday, 4 days, 16 games.
Regards,
Alex
Great ! I am glad you accepted (preliminary) my offer.JR Smith wrote:I would be honored to referee;
Probably, but WCDF rules usually requires referee approval by both players. I am 100% satisfy with your candidacy. I always consider on this matter (choice of referee) that spirit and attitude is important, and perhaps even more than experience.however, I'm sure there are others more qualified.

Thats all I need ! Now we also need Tim approval your candidacy and deal done.Yes, definitely would accept
Usually we create and sign contract which includes match specifics - dates, time, location, prize fund, time control and anything which is exception of rules. I believe - we can use WCDF rules as basic.with the reservation that rules are outlined so I have a judiciary basis.

I got an email off to Tim a few minutes ago with link to this page, requesting particulars... so ball is in motion. This should be the most exciting WCM since World Three Move Women's in Ireland!

Hello Everyone:
I have directed Dr. Beckwith to transfer $100.00 of my 'store' account towards this important 11-Man Ballot Match. GAYP, 3- Move and 11-Man and Mail play are all important facets of our game and I will also add internet playing sites. By emcompassing all of these styles we try to appeal to all players and thus leave no one behind.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

You are so correct... just blowing off I like GAYP and 11-Man and enjoy 3-Move but have not really sent the time studying BC, GD , CTTW, Sixth etc. which you need to do if you intend to be a worthy competitor.

Yes, I am honored to be a part of this historical event.JR Smith wrote:This should be the most exciting WCM
In order to simplify things and make everything easy and clear I propose ...
Once Tim is a winner of National tournament, there is no reason for tie-break, and if match will be tie and score even - Tim should get title. This will be perhaps the most fear thing to do.

Not much news yet since I posted here last time. Both partners finally completely agreed to play match of 16 games through July 4 weekend, starting Thursday July 3rd and finishing on Sunday, July 6th. Match will be play somewhere in NC area, but an exact location is still subject to be determined.
In case of tie score Tim Laverty will get a title, due to his recent victory in the National 2008 Tourney.
Refereee and promoter of event - JR Smith. All contributions can be send to him or ACF Player Representative Richard Beckwith.

will all the games be saved ?
will ballots be discarded or will everything be played?

Re: 11 man ballott WCM, 2008
Tim and I discussed having it at Sleep Inn. We held our NC Open there this past weekend. I have reserved an adequate block of rooms which were originally sold out over the July 4 weekend, but rooms are now available because of our past business and our first right of refusal. I showed Tim where we would be playing, in the balcony lounge area which I think is ideal, and you are close to your rooms, public rest area, just down the stairs and also to the breakfast area for coffee and drinks. Nice big cushion chairs or they will setup playing table and chairs. You can smoke in this balcony lounge area. It is open to motel guest but private and quite, since we will be occupying it all day. But it does overlook the entrance and reception counter and common lobby area. Their banquet and meeting room is booked for a wedding. Not much news yet since I posted here last time. Next couple of choices is:
Americas Best Value & Suits 200 Henson St 24-27 Bypass East Albemarle no meeting rms $45 2Star 704-982-3939 J Petal Mgr. ($41+tax group rate) We play in room I visited this venue and it is a little ratty but workable... you get what you pay for it.
Executive Inn - conference meeting/banquet/convention
735 NC 24/27 Bypass Albemarle, NC 28001 Paul Resident Mgr.
704-983-6990 2Q $65/ K$69 continental breakfast & full internet access/service
Tim Laverty suggested the Palomino Motel in Sanford, NC which I agreed, we need to check it out since it has recently changed ownership. We held our 2007 NC Open there and the rooms were getting a little ratty but for $29.95 you can't complain.
Tim also mentioned we should visit the owner of “SpeakEasy†a very nice billiard parlor in Sanford when he plays in tournaments and knows the owner.
I will see what Tim has on his mind this week. I got the impression he didn't like the balcony lounge? Maybe it was the thought of a wedding reception during the tournament? Maybe the distraction of it would effect his play or the concern about noise that could be generated from it?

Re: 11 man ballott WCM, 2008
Maybe we can create a booklet in respect of event ? We can include here all annotated (by myself) games with diagrams , photos, notes from players/referee and kibitzors, list of contributiors ... Many nice things can be done, but pre-order will be needed. How many buyers we can anticipate ? Thats all make sense only if we are dealing with at least 30-40 copies.JR Smith wrote:All contributors will be listed and receive a copy of all games.

Booklet... Wonderful idea, count me in and all $100.00 contributors. I didn't want to suggest anything about annotated games because I didn't know if you or Tim would have the time.
