POETIC JUSTICE
POETIC JUSTICE
HUMAN
Xmas is coming, as 08 nears its end!!
Think of all the ones we love, and all our absent friends
How human we are to differ, like people often do
So heres a toast to whom we love the most, and all our enemies too.
And as we travel oer the road , to await another year
Drink eat be merry, and “thank God to be here
Be happy for what er ye have, and for what ye have not
And making sure those left and gone , are gone but not forgot.
Sure we re all just one big family, in one big melting pot.
What er your politics or your creed, that point matters not.
Cos 09 will be coming soon, and like a carousel
We ll all behave like last year, sure tis human,…………….what the hell.!!
Happy Xmas and New Year to friend and foe alike.!!! Tommy Canning Ireland.

Re: POETIC JUSTICE
Heres a wee comical piece of verse attributed to the Inishowen Club President Mr John Joe McGee...............but told as it actually happened.
“ THE GALLANT JOHN-JOE”
H e left his home-town on dark stormy night.
To play in the Open in Biddys alright.
For the game that he loved and the craic and the show.
A mighty fine draughts player .. the Big man John-Joe.
He was John Joe Mc Gee from Buncrana he came.
He stood six foot four and draughts was his game.
From Moville to Bundoran the challengers came.
But Biddys o Barnes was his true claim to fame.
Twas the year of 2000 they set sail for the "Gap".
To put Inishowen draughts on the Donegal map.
There was Callaghan, Kelly, the John bhoys and Joe.
But the one to watch out for was ….the Gallant John Joe.
Young Givens took off at a terrible speed.
He was five points ahead and well in the lead.
But John-Joe was there in the following pack.
And slowly but surely he pegged Givens back.
The came the big match with the new National Champ.
Against Tommy Canning no one gave him a chance.
Twas the second last round and John-Joe needed four.
In a re-arranged match in Burnfoot ……by the door.
A nice two-for one had the crowd on their feet.
When news came from Biddys of Givens defeat.
Then a pitch and a squeeze a fine move indeed.
And the Gallant John-Joe goes a point in the lead.
Then came the last round on that fateful nite
Young Givens took McIntyre two –straight all right.
And John-Joe is paired with the…….Mc Cafferty
The pressure is on its now….its Givens by three.
The Big man scores first again the titles in sight
But McCaffertys tough in the second….. its tight.
Then John-Joes a piece down ..gets caught in a shot.
But McCaffertys times running out on the clock!!!.
Now its three Kings to two and a mountain to climb.
But fate is smiling …….on the Big man this time.
McCaffertys clock is starting to go!!!!.................
And a shout rings through Biddys ..its the Gallant John-Joe
In the year of 2000 from Buncrana he came .
To Biddys O Barnes to find honour and fame.
Young players may come and Grand-Masters may go.
But the Millenium Champion is the Gallant John-Joe.

INISHOWEN FESTIVAL OF DRAUGHTS 2007
Oh come all ye players ,please do not delay
Make haste to Buncrana the All-Ireland to play
O er the end of October, you can show off your skill
At that beautiful venue the Gateway Hotel.
Many players are coming, from Limerick to Clare
From Dublin to Carlow,Meath Louth and Kildare
Ron King from Barbados, will be there for a cert
So will Hugh Devlin, the Letterkenny expert
They ll be over from Scotland and the fair Isle of Wight
With Tyrone and Derry,to show us their might
Fromm Russia comes Champion the brave Moiseyev
We admire his talents,or exhibitions he gave.
The great Con McCarrick will be there in style
And Dublins famed Master the great Paddy Doyle
And other great players will be there to a man
From England and Wales and Turkmenistan.
Sure Amangul Durdyeva a lassie of note.
Takes on Patricia Breen whom she hopes to demote.
But we back our Colleen we trust her the while.
A great World Champion and the pride of our Isle.
We all wish and hope… that this Ty will gain,
International publicity honor and fame
So when you are sporting and feeling so well.
Make haste to Buncrana and the Gateway Hotel.
This is a poem I came upon while rummaging around today……sent to me last year just before the All-Ireland by that mighty man ,93 yrs old ex-Garda Sergent P.J Furey (Carlow).Hope you enjoy it....................

"SCANDAL IN STONEY" (Ode to Billy Doherty)
Scandal at the Scottish,as the drama it enfolds
No cup to be presented , of silver nor of gold
Ive heard this story oft before, and many more i fear
Cups are going a missing, one almost every year.
Its such a disapointment, embarrasment as well
Enought to make a grown man cry,if the truth i was to tell
But life goes on no matter what, and when im old n grey
Twill be a nice wee story,to tell the "wains" some day
Of how i fought hard for a week, no food and little sleep
In a tent so cold and draughty, blowin rain and hail n sleet
And when my greatest moment came,my heart was racing fast
Proud winner of the Scottish Cup, the "feckin" thing got LOST.
I might write a song about it,and put in on UTUBE
And maybe sing it for you ,when im in a better mood
For when i think of what went wrong,it makes me very "cross"
The day i won the Scottish Cup.........and the "feckin" thing got LOST.!!

The Ballad of F.W.Slade 2010 …………Key of “D” Major
///////////////////////////////////////////////////
{D} Two laddies went to [G] Inverness, and [A] promised for to do their [D] best.
To battle hard [G] agin the Scots, and [E] wrest the prize to [A] hold aloft.
For [D] five long days the [G] traded blows, on [A] 64, squares of board[ D]
From early morn till [G] late at night, the [E ]battle ebbed and then it [A] flowed.
[D ] The British Open [G] was their dream, [A] a task too great so it would [D] seem.
For many greats had [G] gone before, [E] Tinsley,Long and many more. [A]
But the [D] bhoys are up to the [G] task, no [A] fear of Watson nor of[ D] Pask.
Well prepared [G] whoever comes , to [E] beat the Irish Lambeg drum. [A]bumbumbum
The English ,Welsh were also there, but none to match the Irish pair.
No surrender was the shout, across the board the call rang out.
And as the hours and days rolled by, game by game getting bye
The winning post was in sight, held their nerve as well they might.
Mc Cosker having forged ahead, just a lad of tender years.
Perhaps the youngest maybe so, no quarter given so im told.
Hannigan was in second place, and complicated every race.
Betwixed between up and down, for Slade they came to Inver town.
Now Slade sits on Shanes mantle piece, like new was he in ’38.
Shining bright as before, inside 65 Glebe Gardens door.
And Myles will try next time around,to coax him down to Claada town.
In Kirks, the glasses will be raised, to Slade, to Slade, afore we leav.
And that’s the story at an end, the twists the turns and many bends.
Of just one week in the life, of two bra bhoys who took a flight.
To Inverness in 2010, And brought back home a good ol friend.
Another Irish name will be engraved,on the famous Shield of F.W.Slade.
Tommy Canning Ireland. Song writer and Poet……………..2010
Chorded especially for Billy Doherty, in exile in France.

The University of Life...... (An Ode to Madge)
She rises in the morning, to get me off to school.
Making sure I wash me face, and polish up me shoes.
Then kiss me on the forehead, as id go out the door.
I was glad no one was looking, to listen to their scorn.
The centre of attraction, me mother at her best.
But cross at yer peril, and yull end up like the rest
A nurse, a cook, a banker, if the truth I was to tell.
Mother –wife and lover, and a mind reader she is as well
A tyrant she can be sometimes , like the devil outa hell.
But theres no way id exchange her, for a hundred “Arab”wells.
Shes a teacher, lawyer, doctor, a madamoselle po-et-ic
On the outside big n tough, inside, shes soft n sweet
Shes the judge and shes the jury, full of wisdom guile and wit.
But shes a lady and shes human, ive seen her get into a fit.
She s me mother and I love her, with good reason theres no doubt.
Shes made me everything I am, at her University of Life.

Heres another now that my MSN and mail box are down.!!
The Wife……………..
The wife she has a heart of gold, shes a blessing in disguise.
She knows if im lieing, she can see it in me eyes.
Has me spoiled like a wain, in all weathers, aches and pains.
Cus a man is really just a boy, a thrawn ,over-grown, big wain.
She can read me like a book, make no mistake of that.
And see right thru me end to end, my wife and shes my friend.
She can cook and dig and sow, keep things running nice and smooth.
Like an angel down from Heaven, or did I speak too soon.
I cant just for a minute see, why the “wise men” were all men.
Sure a woman can buy and sell us, oer an oer again.
Sometimes she ll rant and rave and shout, threatening to “get her coat”.
But I couldn’t do without her, sure a man would never cope.
The greatest thing about the wife, shes not too hard to please,
Ye see a wee bita care and attention……… is really all they need.
So with that I ll bid you all adieu, and order one more round.
Cuz a married mans a happy man, and a HAPPY man am ……..I.

Unnamed an Untamed.
First calm, still,….and ladylike, distant, dormant, shy.
Rolling on a sandy bed, stealthly meets a lovers eye.
Relentless, endless, rolling foam, between dark gaping thighs.
Thrashing , stabbing on the rocks, naked torrid thrusts …….she cries.
Then roaring like a lion, full of fire and insane.
Insatible, wild, tormented ,nympo like in pain.
Then purring like a kitten, soft , wet, gentle tamed.
Relaxed, relieved she turns around, another climax reached, arranged.
Waiting, watching, she ll come again, with fire in her eyes.
Copulating on the shore, rising falling deep inside .
Her touch is overcoming , Irresisible tranquillity.
Like the passion of a woman…………to me that is the Sea.!!
