Women's World Freestyle Championship
Jan Mortimer is having problems posting here and has asked me to post the following message on her behalf:
Womens Gayp Match Sunday,May 25 last year, i posted on the forum about securing a bid for the women's gayp title match to be played between Amangel Durdeyov, and myself.I had received funding for the match here in my city of Invercargill, New Zealand. It had been accepted by the WCDF,and Amangul was given to the end of August to accept the bid.The bid included airfare for Amangul, food, accommodation for her and her father, and prize money which had still be determined on me finding more sponsorship for it and donations for the match. On the last day for acceptance ofthe bid,Hoja Dudeyov countered with a higher bid, which the WCDF accepted.Their bid meant i had to go to Turkmenisten . I accepted the bid, with provision that my questions were answered and that money for a plane ticket for myself was forwarded to me, as i needed to get a cheap early bird airfare. My husband, Jim, was going with me as well,he would pay his own way,but it was an expensive airfare to pay for as well.Since accepting the bid, i have had not one email from Hoja, when ive emailed him several times asking for a date, and questions relating to the match. We are meant to play the match before June, which doesnt give us much time. To me this is great disrespect. My feelings are if im going to fly all the way to Turkmenisten to play this match,a huge distance from New Zealand, can i rely on this man to pick me up at the airport as he told the WCDF he would do,if he wont even answer my emails..On October 7th, i emailed Hugh Devlin, who was organizing the match to have a talk with Hoja in Beiijing, and Amangul and he with Hoja could discuss the date and get it sorted. That didnt happen and Hoja told HUgh he had a huge wedding to arrange for his son and wouldnt be in contact for a few weeks.Im not sure why a few sentences on the internet would be that time-consuming.On October 30th, my husband wrote in great frustration to Hugh outlining the fact that there was a travel expo, and we needed to know dates to get the plane tickets. We explained that May would be a good time for both of us with our work committments, but we needed dates now to get the cheap fares. No response from Hoja, not to me or to Hugh.My husband said "Personally i am disappointed in the checker federation, taking no interestin this match............ It should be up to you guys to say, right the date is? the prize money is? the referree is? the venue is? Get your head out of the sand ansd start organizing, that is why you were elected to the federation board."When i put my bid in for the match to be played here, i had the finance organized for the running of it,and the venue sorted before i made the bid,i thought that was procedure, otherwise the bid is false if nothing is in place.According to the WCDF ,Hoja is still looking for a venue, and contacting authorities to see if he can hold the match. To me this bid didnt happen, and my bid should have taken precedence, because everything was sorted. Now we have less than four months. This is wrong, a time frame of 6 months should be the cutting off point, for people to get organized with work committments and organize passports and visas.I am greatly disappointed in the lack of respect the WCDF have shown me in allowing Hoja to delay and delay with more excuses.I am writing to the checker players on the forum to get their opinions on this,as the WCDF are not listening to me. Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
After reading the above letter I could not help feeling very sorry for Jan Mortimer who must now surely be at the end of her tether after receiving one excuse after another for the delays in this match. At a very early stage Jan made herself copiously clear with respect to the match date of May 2009, which now seems impossible due to the time remaining for obtaining Visas for her husband and herself. Early last year Jan made a genuine bid that was extremely fair and this was rejected with a bid made months later from the Durdeyefs - just hours before the deadline!
This dreadful state of affairs does nothing to help promote the game from the female point of view and leaves me wondering if any player would want anything to do with the world women’s freestyle championship after reading of Jan’s appalling experience.
It is my opinion that the women’s world freestyle championship title should now be forfeited to Jan Mortimer in the light of these circumstances.
In the interests of common sense and decency the WDCF must now surely intervene and act firmly in this matter, and do so in Jan Mortimer’s favour.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
I have to agree with you Lindus. Jan should be awarded the title.
Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Please forgive my non paragraphed letter, which makes pretty tough reading,it originally did have paragraphs, but for some reason when pasteing it ,it all ran together.
Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Well well well, after the debacle in Prague (gayp qualifer)then Beijing (Olympic Mond Sport)the WCDF have illustrated once again what a hopeless orginisation they are proving to be.
We just keep going from one disaster to another. Its not at all obvious why Jans bid was over-turned in favor of Hojas when after all the experiences Hugh Devlin has had ,and all the difficutties with the Durdyeyevs that they would come to such a decision to have the match played in Turkmenistan by accepting the counter bid.
Im not getting into the personalities of it re:either Jan or Amangul but the decision making of the WCDF committe might lead one to believe they must be living in the world of Nod ,along with all those directors of collapsed banks.Thankfully the outcome here may not be a matter of life or death but still important enought to those concerned.
I wouldnt go as far as to call for a title forfeit....................but either way its a "no-brainer!

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Both Jan and Amangul are world class players and must be respected for that reason amongst others.
Neither 1 or the other should be resposable for organising or chasing up information on the organisation of their match.
Jan went to long lengths apparently to provide comfort , and ease the voyage of the durdyevs in her bid , as well as a financial guarantee . Her bid was serious and honest.
Hoja , in my view acted in disrespect of the efforts , physical and emotional , that a human being of moral correctness spent in trying to put " something " together , by blatently posting a bid on the closing day . Furthermore through time it has come to light that he did not have any foundations to back his bid , and is also turning a deaf ear to all pleas for negotiation.
with no disrespect to amangul ( who is a player I appreciate highly not only for her play but also for her professionalism ) i adjudicate that the title goes to jan.
if this is not possible then her first bid must be re evaluated and accepted , because hoja is in default.
Hugh and the rest of the " guys " are doing a difficult ; time consuming job , and I am sure that if he could "rely" on someone doing it better then he would gladly give up his position so as to get more serious study time which is what any top world class player would love to be able to do

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Thankyou for the replies so far.William my sponsors for the bid i made have now dried up after being rejected,it took a lot of time and effort for me to organize a New Zealand match. The press were very interested and phoned me weekly wanting interviews about it,but i had to decline,as the Dudeyovs had not responded, and i needed a date to proceed further.
Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Well Igor,...............The Prague Ty was no reflection on you personally nor could anyone criticise you,as you did everything in your power to make it a good Ty and you succeeded in that for which you deserve to be complimented.
As i remember it the American players were not happy with the the way the Ty was set up by the WCDF in so far as the time allotted to each rd (45mins on the clock ,correct me if im wrong),and there was much discussion before the Ty got under way, this was no reflection on you Igor as i assume you were working with the model that was left out for you.
On a peronal note i have to say i enjoyed Prague and the way we were treated and the hospitality recieved while we were there was second to none, this i said at the time when others were not so generous and ive said it many times since .
I didnt have any problems with the allotted time as i hadnt intended to play GAYP in Prague as id nvr played it before,my reason for being there was to accompony Shane for the Youth Ty,as you may not know we dont seem to do GAYP tys in Ireland other than the one Ty (out of the many 3 mv Tys i controlled over the years) and that wasnt well recieved at the time.
My own criticism of the Prague Ty was simplY that the WCDF threw you in at the deep end with a whole roomful of english speaking players and you would have to admit that it was at times it was difficult to communicate, but you did have enough of the dialect when i said Igor "i didnt come to play "...and you said "Tommy........,........PLAY!!!!!!!! " That was one very endearing moment in all my journeys around the world to different Tys .........which i will nvr forget and im thankful you did.
So you see Igor i have nothing bad to say of you or your team in Prague, but do feel the WCDF didnt give you any help and just left you in the lurch which was not good enough in my way of thinking for such any important Ty.
As for the debacle in Beijing my views have been well outlined on this site(Forum).
As someone once said............"Failing to prepare is Preparing to fail"

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Dear Igor,
I think Prague was very well done, especially as there were no clear WCDF rules established at that time.
Beijing was a different matter. The rules were clear, but the organizers treated draughts and especially checkers wth, let me say, less attention then other mind sports, which the WCDF (and FMJD) failed to recognize on time.
I believe that in four years the rules wioll be more familiar to referees and players, and that we will be less dependent on the organizers for pieces and boards.
To me Prague was very good, and Beijing was still good, though still not good enough for a tournament of that status.
Regarding the match between Jan and Amangul, I can safely say that I feel disappointed about the way thing were going.
But the WCDF should not make a decision without match, that is my view. I still belive that it could be done before the next qualifier, but time is running fast.
Anywy, the ACF Forum is not the right place to decide nor is the WCDF executive board. The rught board to decide it is the Checker board.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
I agree that the Women's free style championship should be settled across the draughts board. I also agree that the WCDF should be the organizer of this match. I don't think either Jan or Amangul should be reponsible for putting together this match. For women's checkers to surrive, the WCDF has to be a positive influence in making the event happen. Actually, failure of the WCDF to put this match together could certainly mean that even men checker championship matches in the future could be bogged down with the same type of confusion that surrounds this important match.
From reading the posts listed on this forum, it is evident to me that Jan did have a legimate bid to host the women's championship in New Zealand. Although I think Hoja Dudeyov had good intentions when he put in his bid for the match , his failure to communicate promptly with Jan Mortimer raises doubts as to whether Hoja has actually been able to put his bid together in accordance with the requirements of the WCDF.
Now, it is time for the WCDF to make a tough decision on this match. I think the WCDF should give Hoja 15 days to demonstrate that he has put together the bid as he said he had way back in August. As Jan says, it is too late now for Hoja to be trying to put together a bid. Also, the WCDF should require Hoja to answer the concerns raised by Jan concerning airport pickup etc. if the WCDF is happy with the proof that Hoja has actually cemented his bid.
It is unfortunate now that Jan can't host the event in New Zealand due to the WCDF accepting the last minute bid of Hoja.
If Hoja cannot come through with legimate bid then the WCDF has to intervene and make even more tough decisions about the World Free Style Championship for the women involved.
Although I prefer the match to be settled across the board , I think in all fairness the WCDF should award the World's Women Free Style Championship to Jan Mortimer if Hoja does not meet the requirements I stated above. This is a black eye for checkers in general and could be the beginning of the end for organized checkers if this problem is not resolved.

As soon as I read originally this topic, I wrote email to Hoja, gave him a link to this site and topic, and
asked him to respond / comment. Today I had received an email from him, where he wrote that he will
contact with WCDF and National Federations on this matter and inform them about bid details and match
setup.
I don't want to put here everything he wrote, but the main idea was that things are absolutely, 100% under
control, match setup goes smoothly, and level of his and his family respect and treatment to Jan is as high
as her respect and treatment to Amangul.

PS. I only passed here some information w/o comments, and do not accept any questions on this.

Perhaps you should take the post of Foreign Ambassador to the WCDF??
