Now that there has been a conspriracy of silence for so long over this issue,i would like to know what is happening with the challenging of this match. After my very bad experience of trying to get a challenge going, are the WCDF committee hanging their heads in shame, and hoping that if noone says anything, the issue will just go away?
I have been told by a WCDF committe member that readers are heartily sick of reading about this subject, i suppose really thats to silence me on it,but this wont make it go away.and for the sake of all women checker players, WHAT IS HAPPENING to this? Jan Mortimer

So far the WCDF has received no bids to host either GAYP challenge match 2010. Th closing date for bids is 1 December 2009 so time is getting short. If no bids are received by 1 December 2009 it is up to the challengers to arrange something. These are Richard Beckwith and Wilma Wolverton.
Re: womens gayp title
You know full well that Wilma has declined to challenge based on the bad experiences ive had,so why say that?We have no gayp womens challenger now,and no 3 move womens challenger.A great state of affairs!

Well said Jan. Certainly a hive of inactivity at present.
Whatever happened to the proposal to set up a sub-committee to review and revise the regressive rules that are so unfair to any challenger?
Reminds me of another old standard:
"Hang down your head Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry,
Hang down your head Tom Dooley,
Poor boy you'r goin' to die."

The "bid committee" work is still a "go" and should commence in the next few days. It has not started yet since I was busy putting on the King-Moiseyev match and then preparing an annotated booklet of the games, which I just finished. This past weekend, I started researching documents and correspondence relating to world title match bids, so that the committee has a starting point to begin their work.

Re: womens gayp title
I don't get the point:
1. The dead lines are not over yet, so the WCDF can't do anything but wait.
To critizise that is quite strange.
What if my little nephew would blame Santa for not already having his presents in November?
2. It is right that Wilma Wolverton already declared not to challenge.
And you are right Jan, that this is a mess.
It seems she won the QT in order to decline the challenge outright, and that says it all who is to blame.
Thx for pointing that out.
3. Wait until the dead lines passes before you start to waste time in fighting windmills that are not even there.

Re: womens gayp title
My point is Ingo, whose challenging who!You say a bid process is underway, but whose bidding for the challenge! Why is it such a closely guarded secret?Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing in the committe, when John declares that Wilmas challenging, and she declared right from after the qualifier she wasnt! Is there any communication whatsoever between you all?And whose bidding for the 3 move?

Re: womens gayp title
I don't think there is any need to raise alarms here about a disconnect in communication. The bid committe work is about general guidelines and not about any specific bids (and John clearly stated here that there were no official bids submitted yet, but there is still some time). Secondly, in England, Wilma told me she did not wish to arrange her own match with Amangul, and we did receive later communications confirming this. However, I suppose there are always the chances (perhaps of very low probability) of either a third party expressing interest in bidding with an "offer that is difficult to refuse" or with having Wilma or Joan reconsider. John was just speaking in general terms about the bidding process and responsibilities. If Wilma still does not wish to pursue a match (as expected), that is certainly her individual choice.

In other words, there are no definate candidates for challenging Amangul, and what it now comes down too is that anyone can challenge,as long as theyve got the money that will satisfy Hoja's greed.
Re: womens gayp title
I see the ACF have just published this statement.
"A WCDF women’s qualification event (match) was held at the Isle of
Wight, Britain, in September 2009. This was won by Wilma Wolverton
(USA) who became the official challenger to the Women’s World (GAYP)
Championship Title that is currently held by Amangul Durdyeva
(Turkmenistan). However, Wilma Wolverton has declined to make a
challenge. Following this the runner-up Joan Caws (IOW) was offered
the opportunity to make a challenge and she has also declined. As
there is no official challenger there will be no official match for
this title in 2010."
That is 3 refusals from other women in this last year to play Amangul Durdyeva.Does that not send alarm bells through the checker federations?I understand there is going to be a world qualifier in Ireland, but nothing has been mentioned here on it. Can anybody shed some light? And if any woman chooses to go,is there a guarantee that the womens winner would actually get to play Amangul the following year?If not, whats the point?

Re: womens gayp title
Dear Jan:
The ACF has no control over World Title matches , but it would be nice to have had someone (you or Kim) for example, play a match this year to keep women in Checkers active.
We only have a handful of women players on Earth and I am all for promoting all groups of players. I encountered opposition in getting GM Kondlo to the US to play and win an ACF GAYP National Tournament. He missed the WQ because I stayed out of the situation and as a result he did not get his Visa to attend.
I have no control over the WCDF and have my hands full with my duties as ACF President.
Personally I would love to see a woman's match played every year.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President
American Checker Federation

Re: womens gayp title
That would be great John,if you could pursuade Hoja to come over, and not want thousands of dollars to do so.Im thinking of going to the American nationals myself.

Thanks for trying John
