Re: English Match Championship
Correct! The UK consists of 4 countries:- England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. (You would call them states.) Each country has its own champion.

Re: English Match Championship
Hi Patrick,
The UK Match Championship, or British Match Champion as it is also called, is seldom played for these days. Derek Oldbury held that title for many years until his sad passing.
It is good that the English Match Championship is still going strong
These matches, usually consisting of twenty games, are contested by two players. With Brian Lucas holding the English Match Championship title we will have to wait and see who qualifies to play him next year. Such a qualifying player would, for example, be the highest placed Englishman in the English Open Three-Move Championship.
Being a Welshman I could only play in the Welsh Match Championship which, hopefully, we intend to inaugurate in due course. Initially the two best Welsh players would contest such a match; the players being Dafydd Roberts and Terry Thomas.
I hope this answers some of your questions. If not please feel free to ask.

Re: English Match Championship
Hi Patrick,
We do have the Home International Teams’ Tournament when England, Scotland, The Republic of Ireland (2008 winners), Northern Ireland and Wales play every four years. The teams are usually of about ten to twelve players and the event is played over five days. The level of play is such that I have not been selected to play for Wales during the last two matches. Hopefully, if the selectors agree, I might just make the 2012 team
I just sent you a PM.
