I have spoken with authorities in the online checkers community and they agreed that we will send some of our top 5 players to a live tournament soon.

..... some of the strongest online players will possibly soon attend a live checkers event..... If things go through

Chee , what is it going to be, will they attend like the title and your first statement says.... or will they POSSIBLY attend IF things go through???? there's a big difference in those two statements and the title of your thread.

that fellow was an 'online' player in my list .... then again when i look into it and check my criterion for online and offline players i have just realized that i am an online player "what the ???"

I have never attended a live tournament
I have never met anybody else in person
i play online ocassionally.

it would be interesting to see what other criterions there are.....
my last point is this, this "coon" character has the charm of a drunken pig on drugs.... so i fail to see how anybody wether online or offline would claim him as their own.

Chee is right - my opinion about level of play for most online players is not very high. There is exception for few of them and I am very glad that they are coming this year to National (depends on financing) even though most of them hate GAYP as much as I do

Fredo, Jolt and Ray can play in Masters and Nick, Chee and Eric - in Majors.

My predicitions - all of them will be above 50% points, some but not all may finish in top 6. I wish all of them good luck - that would be fun ! I guarantee that everyone including themselve will be surprize.

We can call them - "online desant"

Hello, dear Adam !

I accept your challenge and we'll definetely play soon. However I wasn't very active online in the past several months and my "online level" needs recovery. I am considering you as vey strong serious opponent and I have to prepare for our match as usually I do only for cross board play. As you are probably aware - I recently started again my online sessions and played with Jolt and Fredo. At the moment I am not completely satisfy with results and need more time. You also can use this time for your preparation as well - I can assure you that I am not very weak checkers player

I hope our online match will be very interesting and educatable for everyone.

My favor time control is 3/2 and we'll play 20-30 games on some weekend.

I really hope and encourage you this year (2011) to attend English Open which usually is played somewhere in May-June - this will be a logical step forward in your checkers career. I think your level in Internet today reached a peak and moving forward to real tournaments will be very beneficiary for you and checkers.

English Open is at Ryde, Isle of Wight from 9 to 13 May.

The venue is the Town Club and play starts on 9 May at 9.30 AM.

If there was one in London i may consider it, but Isle Of Wight is a bit much. Traveling on a ferry and ETC, considering im 21 and im doing other stuff aswell. And the prize money isn't that good is it ? although Isle Of Wight is cool i've been there and stayed there.

Sandown is a great place, but too much for me unfortunately. Hopefully though there will be one in London one day, but out of interest what is the prize money ?

Mate what people claim and the truth are 2 separate things, his behaviour alone indicates he is not and never was an ACF member. You've seen him in action, you know what I mean. If anybody cares to show me proof, I will stand corrected but until then, he isnt an 'offline' player, just a rude idiot with 20 million nicknames, who dislikes anybody chatting in the main room.

I wish them all the best Alex, we need more talented players to come through, I just wish that they werent so damn cagey and they made such a fuss where ACF has to practically beg to get them to come along, that's not good.

Tucker took 8th in masters in the last nationals. I've played him in Kurnik many times. I don't think I would get killed in masters division lol and I certainly wouldn't struggle in majors. It would be like a Nick with ten times the skills lol.

Chee, without doubting your 'skills' which i know are far more proficient than mine at checkers. This is what 'offline' players get sick and tired of.... all this chest beating and conjecturing and boasting. I'm better than you, you and you and then when they invite you to a tourney, you guys have a headache or it is too far, or nobody will hold your hand to get to the door, or the dog ate your homework. You guys need to stand up and put your skills on show and turn up to a couple of tourneys.

PS 2 important points here.... 1) despite the previous points i made earlier in this thread i am a closet óffline' player im just 20 thousand miles from civilization. 2) i am at no point here doubting your checker prowess or anbody elses.... im just saying if i was 10 times better than others i would be running or hitchhiking to the next tourney ....

It is called the Grotto Club and is situated at 24 Golden Square.

They meet every Thursday from 7.30 PM.

You have to go down to the basement.

Thanks John but to be honest mate Checkers is just a hobby to me, if the prize money was bigger i'd maybe consider it. But as i said im young man mate, and im doing other stuff. Im currently trying to become a lifeguard, and i'd have to take time out of my schedule. And go traveling all the over place, and play for god knows how long for very little reward.

That's great if you guys like playing in tournaments, and i also wish some of my fellow online players can go. And represent us well, but its not possible for everyone.

They only play friendly games at the Grotto. Not tournaments. It is more social than competitive. It would also give you a chance to meet some of the English players. You might find these contacts useful in the future.
