You can be part of party If you have any books, bulletins, magazines etc which you want to share with entire world - you can add them to this library. This library is open in all directions and dimensions for all forms of game and people (not webmaster) are continue developing and raising library every day.

For Straight Checkers it will be worthy to add here missing ACFB.

Here is what library webmaster wrote in guest book about Straight Checkers part of library: " ... only 9 clicks (including you and me). My reply sits in moderation for 20 hours already, after 3 years I am still in the newly registered category."

it is quite amazing that only few checkers player on ACF website were interesting checkers literature and free online books. Perhaps I misunderstood something.

Mr Kacher, website and library owner (also one time CA Champion), mentioned on Facebook that many Italian players started actively downloading Straight Checkers Books.

Mr. Kacher also proudly mentioned that website passed recently 30,000 hits. 9 of them - after posting announcement on ACF website. I really hope the situation is not so bad as it looks like.

Why Mr. Kacher post to this topic is waiting 20 hours for moderation ?!

Mr. Alex, thank you for posting the links to Mr. Kacher's on line checkers library. Some of the books are available at other websites, but this is really convenient and a time saver. I saw for the first time and downloaded in pdf format Bank's Scientific Checkers edited by Newell Willams Banks in the straight checkers section. So now I know the correct middle name of Newell W. Banks. In the pool checkers section I downloaded in pdf format Textbook Of Draughts by Jean Dufresne, translated by Richard White. This is a historical book from Germany in 1884. There is something for everyone who has an interest in checkers!

I have visited this site, and it is an excellent addition to the works that are available online. Some very rare books are included here, in particular
the volumes of "American Checker Review"....an extremely rare and hard to find publication !!!

Yea-a-a ... this library is awesome ! Jake told me in email that couple people started donating to Straight Checkers section of library. Jake recently registered on ACF forum and may add something to this topic.

I promised him to contribute my book "Sixth" to library after I sale all copies printed in 2006 (few left).

Hi Alex,

Actually I've been a member here since 2011 when you posted the first time about the library. Since your last announcement on 1/16 I added 12 books, 3 magazines and converted positions from D.E.O. book into movable HTML format.
Yes, already two sizable book scan contributions from this forum readers. Your book will be a bright new star among the antiques Let me take it back - Bill Salot' "Slocum Strokes " will always be newer, he keeps working at it!

Three more books this evening, all together over 160 books and magazines on Straight Checkers. I have a few more but otherwise cleaned out!
I bet there are many books and bulletins outthere, especially in England, just scan them and email to editor@checkersusa.com

First of all I want to thank George and Jay for their positive reviews and of course Alex for bringing the library to your all attention.
I did see a few new people that probably came to check the library out but not as many as one wishes, perhaps there needs to be more time.
I started a large project of generating html games from previous world championships, but need the support of a good historian to provide players pictures and match whereabouts. I do have some information but obviously I am not an expert.

Hi Danny, thanks for the note. One specific word "download" you said, it bothers me, my vision was of people perusing books, opening this or that, finally concentrating on a specific one, reading on line or downloading for home. In reality people starved for books see the library foremost as the download site, grab what they can as fast as they can. Some days I see 4-5GB downloaded, perhaps they skip going to work! Later on some told me they prefer reading on line - faster, easier to find than on their own PC.

Jake, that is an excellent suggestion, The Elements of Draughts; or Beginners' Sure Guide by I.D.J. Sweet, Draught Editor of The New York Clipper. This entertaining guide was first published in 1859. Significantly, it features Drysdale
in Game VI. Drysdale came over from Scotland to tour America in 1855, the same year Sweet started his draughts column.
Of the evolution of Draughts to Checkers as the name of the game, Sweet uses the phrase "play chequers" (spelled with a "q") in his preface. Anderson is highly revered, and Wylie (with one "l") is featured in at least two games. Drummond is mentioned, and Spayth is featured in Game VII. In 1860, Spayth will have his first book on draughts published. Sweet and Drysdale helped popularize Draughts in America, and helped lay the ground work for Spayth's books and Wyllie's tours.
