Yet, the only information we have from ACF forum front page about M. Borghetti vs L. Kondlo World Title Match - "tentatively scheduled" in ICHF, Petal MS, sometime in September. In the middle of April no exact dates, no contract, no financial information. Everything is in the air and in clouds.

Anything more than "tentatively scheduled" ... or WCDF plans to keep low profile on this match and title ? This huge conspiracy a bit bother me.

Recently we learned that Miki stepped aside from team match Italy vs USA - very important, prestigious and respectable event. This is consistent with his preliminary announcement to quit checkers which he made in the fall 2017. It is probably too late now to find opponent for Lubabalo in 2018 if match will not take place. In this case title goes to vacant or ... what ? This conspiracy bother me.

Back to 2001-2003 3-moves World Title controversy - Anglo-American draughts community didn't accept new World Champion without playing match with respectable opponent recognized and endorsed by all National Federations. Do we still have this tradition in place ?

Hi Alex,

I received a communication last week from Alessandro Solazzo, president of draughts club ASD DAMA FOGGIA, who wrote about Michele Borghetti, "...that his current health condition allows us to be able to plan his participation in the GAYP World Title Match which will be played against Kondlo within the current year (2018)." Dates were originally selected just prior to the Las Vegas National, but then the question was raised whether playing between the Las Vegas tournament and World Qualifier might make more sense (to which they haven't replied yet).

It is really good to hear that Miki is doing well and will be able to play this match which is highly anticipated by many. For Lubabalo it will be good protection his rights to play this match and for Miki chance to defend his title and prove that he is still in business!

Any updates ? Last news I heard about couple months ago - match dates are (approximately) September 10, Monday - September 15, Saturday.

The match details are moving forward for Michele Borghetti and challenger, Lubabalo Kondlo. The dates are now September 8-14 in Petal, MS. (This information is in the latest ACF bulletin.) Sergio Scarpetta is also coming to ICHF to attend. The players are reviewing the match contract. We are hoping to reach a prize fund of over $4000, but the match budget is even larger, with flights considered. Thanks to those donors who have already gotten us more than halfway to our goal. Just wondering if weather conditions (Gordon hurricane) could be a factor which may delay things. Jackson airport shall be close in the next 2-3 days I guess. Did players already arrive or plan to be there in the next couple days ?

Hello everyone,
Borghetti and I arrived in Petal the day before yesterday.
We'll be expecting Kondlo to arrive here at about 9:30 at night.

As scheduled, the opening cerimony will be tomorrow at 8:30 am and the first round will start at 3:30 pm.
The match will be played on the historical table used by Marion Tinsley, Asa Long, Don Lafferty and other great past champions.

I'll try to update you on this match day by day.
