WCDF ratings

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I remember previous year it was an announcement, that the first official WCDF rating list will be ready somewhere in the beginning of this year along with finalysed version of regulations and norms.

Does anyone has any information on this ?

Alex

Dear Mr. Alex,

I served on committee for this, although most of work was conducted by Igor and George Miller. We had on-line meeting and much discussion around Christmastime. Draft ratings were formulated -- but list still needed a number of things done, such as removing deceased players, clarifying ambiguous first names, reviewing master/grandmaster titles, fixing people with obviously too high or too low a ranking (not necessarily an easy fix). I haven't heard much on this topic lately. The last Excel list I have is from Jan. 19 (if anyone's interested), but it may have been updated since.

Thanks for clarification, Richard !

As many of us, checkers players, I am indeed very eager to see this list. However, I am ready to wait until everything will be finalized and clean up. I remember several months ago preliminary list (without approval) circulated in Internet and generated a big storm on BBS (former English checkers chat site).

In other hands, having 200-300 (or more ?) names on such list - it is very hard and almost impossible to clean everyhing 100%. This responsibility perhaps should be address to National Federations.

Respectfully,

A new WCDF rating list was posted this week. It can be found at http://checkers.wz.cz (This site also contains some free checker databases, and Igor welcomes pdn contributions to ikeder@volny.cz).

Many thanks to Igor Keder and George Miller for putting the ratings together, although it is still a work in progress in a few areas. Ratings do not include TN tournament, but I have sent these results to Igor.

Will see if we can include this rating list on ACF site in near future.

Congratulations to all committee members - George, Rich and Igor (and whoever else was involved) for outstanding job. It looks much better and clear now then one "unoficial rating list" which we had a chance to observe several months ago.

I can't wait now to receive from WCDF my diploma and registration number of GM title holder

As a member of the rating commitee I must inform you that we still have not authorized any list to be published.
We had an agreement not to publish any list before we authorized it,and I am sad to say, that you r talking about a list which is not supported by the WCDF yet, and may not become an official list in the future.

May I ask all commitee members to stick to the policy we agreed upon?

Ohhh, OK ! I didn't know this. Anyway - it seems like committee is on the right way. Thanks to all you guys for your efforts.

I did receive in email a copy of this list several hours ago from few members of committee and thought - this list was approved and finalized.

Alex

Ellis Wyn Thomas who is ranked 142 in the list is not female as suggested by the "F" alongside his name.

Hello, Igor !

Here are my couple cents:

1. Clayton Nash first name misspelled.
2. In addition, I would award with GM title two more people: Jack Francis and Ed Bruch.
3. I would replace "gender column" on table by country flag, or just remove this column completely without replacement - too personal and useless information on my opinion.

Regards,

Alex

Igor, I perfectly understand - it is not a final version. And probably will not be until GA in July. And this is good, which means - we still can make it better  and more clear.

As I said - I am much more satisfy with this draft compare with previous version. Looking deeper at titles, I find a few people, which might be worthy to award by MI or MF titles (still don't understand a difference). At least commitee can discuss this if someone make a motion.

Jerry Childer,
Rawle Williams,
Fred Buckby,
Lucas Valenta (due to title),
Robert Shuffett,
Clint Olsen,

I also would award with titles mail World Champions - Richard Fortman and Mac Banks even though they don't have a rating.

Alex

L.Valenta does not earn a Master status for winning a Class C type tournament.
