sixth received
Today I received 6 enormous parcels of books from the Ukraine. On opening the first parcel I found it to contain copies of a remarkable book on checkers called Sixth. I have a copy of the book in my hand as I write. Browsing through I find all the games from Cookstown that I was privileged to referee back in 2003. There are copious notes explaining everything that I couldn't see from my viewpoint by the side of the board. The book is a masterpiece of exposition. You really feel as though Alex is in the same room sharing a bottle of vodka with you as he tells you what was going through his mind at every juncture.
What more can I say? Get the book yourself and see what you think. European readers should send me

William - my book SIXTH can be ordered from Dr. Reade, who is my official dealer in Europe, or directly from ACF STORE online by using PAY PAL option.
If you are collector, personalize edition ($75 + $3 shipping and handling) maybe the best choice for you.
$48 - is a price for regular edition.
William, two games from our historic match in 2001 were fully annotated in this book. One from Double Cross and another - "Lafferty Shadow", remember ? Eliminator Draw (fantastic 3x4 man down draw) also was covered as part of annotations to this game and shall now become a part of ending classics. (along with "position #7" from my game with Richard Beckwith in Octopus)
Respectfully,
Alex

Only very limited number of people should get a free copy of book - editors of my book, ACF Youth National Champion 2006, my sister, my publisher, Anthony Kozenski - man who helped me join with checkers and teached to play.

SIXTH arrived to USA
Today I had received all my airmail parcels. I plan to send them to my pre-buyers no later than tomorrow and hopefully they should get a book in the next 5-6 days.
There is one buyer from New Zealand, and several in Europe and UK. This may take 7-10 days. I will post more detail information later.
At the first glance - everything seems to be OK with no "surprises" : the book title and author name printed correctly - thats all I am concern.
Anything else to the rest goes to readers
Respectfully,
Alex Moiseyev

Re: sixth received
Patrick - it was ACF offer
ACF will be benefited from getting memberships of 5 new people and will buy one copy of my book to send it to recruiter. So ... all questions about this program shall be addressed to Alan Millhone, ACF President. I certainly beleive this program is active, but don't know - how many people were qualified for free copy.
On my part - I plan to contribute a free personalize copy of SIXTH to the first overall winner of the 2006 Youth National.
In addition, ACF earned $5 from each sale of the SIXTH through ACF store, and as of today it is several hundred dollars. I am glad I have a chance to support Federation in my way and I am glad to feel it's support.
Regards,
Alex

Pa. Open next week end
Hello everyone:
Week-end after this I will be going to Grove City, Pa. for the tournament there. It is actually the District 3 & Pennsylvania State and will be held June 10th- 11th. at the Comfort Inn (excellent facility) in Grove City, Pa. You can reach the hotel at: (724) 748-1005 and tell them you are coming for the Checker Tournament. Full information in our June Bulletin. Mr. Alex will be there with a goodly supply of his new book " SIXTH" and I will get my copy then:-) This tournament is a week before the ACF 3-Move Nationals at Medina,Ohio and would be an excellent 'tune up' for the Nationals. Looking forward to seeing old friends and hopefully some new faces in Pa.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President
American Checker Federation
District 6 Champion

Re: sixth received
Alex and Richard, I have noticed that you have proposed calling the position you had in the Octopus 7th Position. Well let's examine this. The numbered positions occur with such frequency(from just about any opening) that they are considered standard endgame positions in the game of checkers. Does this position fit this criteria? I think not!!!

7th position
Gene,
the title "7th position" was given by Ed Trice, when he wrote his part of article by using WCC 10 pieces database. I decided to use his terminology once noone has objections. It is not official, indeed, and not serious
I think we can use another criteria: the numbers are assigned once claimed ! How about this ?
There are at least two more endings covered in the SIXTH which may pretend to get a numbers - Eliminator Draw and Fugitive King.
But again ... Ed Trice just wanted to mark WCC name in checkers ending theory, and claimed this title. If fraternity accept it and start using - so be it, if not
Regards,
Alex

7th position
See Scarne's Encyclopaedia of Games page 506 for 1st to 8th positions in checkers. Scarne's 7th and 8th positions are particularly useful to know in practice.
