Benefits of playing Checkers:-)
Hello Robert:
I have always enjoyed and treasured the many Checker/Draughts players I have met over the years. I consider them my second family.
The game of Checkers when studied scientifically is one of the best mind games ever created. The study of the game teaches patience, enhanced memory, analytical abilities, and learning to think 'outside the box'.......
Others are welcome to add onto my observations as an average player.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

Well, before I started training the mind martial art of checkers... I use to go on to yahoo games to spam and swear at people. Also I use to troll everytime I'm online, but since starting out in the martial art of checkers back in 2001 I worked on my game rather than spamming the boards. The martial art of checkers, like other martial arts, teaches discipline.

Re: Benifits of playing Checkers?
alans idea of a second family is very true....and sometimes its immediate
just people you connect with...you share the joy of the game...
sounds silly but its true
when your at a tournament and everyone is remember their friend that passed on ....sharing funny stories about that person ....crying over the memories you know they had something special.......friends
i am not saying its a reason to overcome loneliness or some such
but its a bi product of the game
also look at the how long some of our players live
and i would have to say staying sharp upstairs helps people live longer lives

I taught a new friend of mine checkers today. It was a nice way for me to get to know her better. I like patient and intellectual people; watching someone learn how to play checkers lets you easily see if these two qualities exists in the person's personality. I think that since these qualities become visible in this activity, then it can probably be stated that they are improved as they are practiced. (this is kind of a wave your hands in the air type of proof as one of my professors would say, haha
)
