In Boxing, Floyd "Money" Mayweather (USA) defeated Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (Mexico) for the Super Welterweight Championship. Alvarez went the distance in this twelve round bout held in Las Vegas on Saturday night, September 14.

In Chess, Magnus Carlsen of Norway won the inaugural Sinquefield Cup that was held from September 9 to September 15
in Saint Louis. Four contestants battled it out in a double round-robin event. Carlsen will challenge World Champion Viswanathan Anand of India this November. The WCM will take place in Chennai, India.

Carlsen beat Anand 6.5 to 3.5 in ten games to become Chess World Champion. I found out during the
course of the Chess WCM that the Sinquefield Cup in Saint Louis was Carlsen's first tournament in the USA.
