i just wanted to call attention to some incredible film clips of old masters in their younger days.
See them at http://www.online-museum-of-checkers-history.com/
Many players in upper age brackets will recall encounters with some of these masters in their later years.
When I was much younger, and they were older, I played Ryan, Grover, and Banks when they gave exhibitions in Detroit. I played two friendly games with Long at his home in Toledo. I played Ricca at the NY Chess and Checker Club in Times Square.
At those times, I had no appreciation whatsoever of the honor, privilege, and opportunity I was given to be in their presence. My, what memories old films trigger.

Re: MOVIE CLIPS OF OLD MASTERS
Bill, thank you for posting this incredible YouTube from Martins Ferry (as in Robert Martins). This brings back memories for me, although a generation later. I remember browsing through the checker books at the Grand Rapids Library West Side Branch. The same library author Max Apple writes about in his short story American Bakery. The checker books are long gone, and I hope they ended up in a collector's hands. The local book stores also had checker books. That was back in the early 70's. I remember Newell Banks and Arthur Reisman from back then.

George,
For the record, I did not post the YouTube; Jay did. I just commented on it.

Bill, thanks for the correction, I should have said thank you for the link.
Jay H. did a great job of identifying the great checkerists at the 1937 ACA Tournament
at Martins Ferry, Ohio.

The Online Museum of Checkers History now has a Tribute to Louis Freemen!
It includes the 1937 film of the ACA Tournament, and a group picture photograph
