This picture was taken in Humboldt this year at West TN Open, 5/7/2011.

Most of you know Earl is our oldest active tournament checker player. 97 with a birthday on December 13th. When he was in Humboldt, TN playing the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival he developed a cough and couldn't shake it off. He is in ICU with respirator at the hospital, with pneumonia in both lungs. Doctors switched him to some new antibiotics after prolonged worsening. These new drugs finally came in to help fight this infection, hopefully this will help his progress. Faye wants all the checker players to keep Earl on their prayer list. I will keep you posted but things don't look good.

The Texas Open and District 8 is scheduled for June 10 & 11th, and the latest on that is it will be played as scheduled. There is plenty of support and lots of capable Texas checker players in their group like Hugh and Judy Hawkins, Albert Tucker, Carol Williamson, and others who will help out with refereeing and scorekeeping. Earl would want this. Faye will be in and out but mostly with Earl at the hospital. Hopefully this new medicine will bring improvement.

His address is: McKinney Medical Center, 4500 Medical Center Drive, McKinney, TX 75071.

Let's all play the TX/D8!

I knew him, I met him and I lost him. He was a great man. My deep sympathy to his family members and friends.

I only knew Earl for about three years but during that time I determined that he was a fine Christian gentleman and a great guy to play checkers with. Earl will surely be missed. My condolences to Fay.
