Game #2 Moiseyev vs. Borghetti analyzed by Mac Banks
I think Michele Borghetti missed a win against Alex Moiseyev in game #2 of their World Checker 3 Move championship. Does anyone else have an opinion on this game. Here is one way to win it below:
[Event "2011 World's Three Move Checker Championship, Game 2"]
[Date "2011/08/14"]
[Black "Alex Moiseyev"]
[White "Michele Borghetti"]
[Result "0-1"]

(A) This is the best attack for white and I don't see any draw for red after this move
All the best,

Re: Game #2 Moiseyev vs. Borghetti analyzed by Mac Banks
I think that if there is hope for red then my choice would be
15. 6-10 (not 15. 11-16)
cause after
15. ... 31-27
16. 17-22 21-17
red has the possibility
17. 5-9! 14x5
18. 10-15 19x10
19. 7x21 which has to be examined
Not sure if that is a win, though still white is still very strong.
At least it offers good practical chances for survival.

Yes that is correct 13-17 at move 14 loses after 23-18 - 6-10 is the only move to drawMac Banks wrote:I think Michele Borghetti missed a win against Alex Moiseyev in game #2 of their World Checker 3 Move championship. Does anyone else have an opinion on this game. Here is one way to win it below:

Danny,
on your request:
1. Moiseyev, A. - Borghetti, M.
WCM (11), 15.8.2011
1.09-13 23-18 2.11-16 The Wilderness is considerd by Pask (and others) the most critical opening for red.White gets a very strong Dyke or wins outright. 18-14 3.10x17 21x14 4.06-09 22-18 5.01-06 27-23 6.08-11 32-27 7.16-20 So far both players followed the main line, as given by Pask and others. 23-19 N!The new move.During the game an italian guest mentioned it was prepared by Miki, and if 8.4-8 then 8 ... 26-23 would be the move to make, 8.04-08 19-15
[ Not the mentioned 8...26-23 , so probably Miki went over it, and decided that 19-15 may even better, or he forgot the cook and played on his intuition. The postion remains crtical for red, so it is at least a reasonable alternative. ]

A nice pitch, but red can survive 15.06x15 27-23 A bold move based on deep calculation that draws, but most spectators including me thought that it was a loss... 16.15-18! 23x07 17.02x11 22x15 18.11x18 25-21 19.08-11 31-27 20.11-15 28-24 Now it looks as if red is completly lost, but Alex must have seen this postion and comes up with a very fine solution. 21.14-17! A pitch that dahad to be seen when deciding upon 16.15-18.Alex saw it, and we saw a masterpiece of defense work against a good new approach in the Wilderness. 21x14 22.18-22 26x17 23.13x22 the pawns on 24 and 27 are held, and there is no defense against reds threat of promoting and winning a piece back. The game was declared drawn here.Try: 14-10 24.22-26 29-25 25.26-31 25-22 26.31-26 22-17 27.26-22 17-13 28.15-18 10-06 29.18-23 27x18 30.22x15 1-1

I am wondering whether Michele missed a win in Game 1.

Then Michele played 32-27, but 30-26 wins?

Danny these opening require specialist prior knowledge.I wont try to put you offa your path but its so difficult to visualise to the point of almost being impossible.
Johns move with 3026 does leave red with some backward pieces and white with a good looking advantage but still seems to draw out.

Dear checker/draughts friends,
to make it easier to have a productive discussion of each single game,
I have opened up a topic for each one in the "games" section.
From time to time I will check the remarks that have been made, and include them in the "notes" to the given game, which wil always be the 1st post in the topic.
I hope this way we can follow the game more easily and structured.
