Early German Draughts Books

Post by liam stephens »

Hi Ingo, I think you asked me about this. I found the following references:

KOCH J. F. W. Das Damenspiel 1811.

POHLMAN J. G. The Polish Game of Draughts 1811 (2nd Ed 1815).

ZIMMERMAN F. Vollstandiger Codex der Damenbrett 1821.

( I am not certain if Pohlman and Zimmerman were from Germany or Holland)

You might also find the following reference useful:

POIRSON PRUGNEAUX Encyclopaedia de Jeux de Dames 1852 - Paris.

Incidentally the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National library of the Netherlands) has a very fine collection of Draughts books.

Thk u Liam.

Very interesting indeed.

The books by Koch and Zimmermann seem to be German books, but the Pohlman book has an English title, which looks suspicious to me, and is about Polish Draughts, or 10*10 Draughts, as we say today.

I have the catalogue of the Royal Dutsch Library, but only for chess books :(
I never looked it up on the net, so thx for this most useful link.

Greetinx from Dortmund at midnight,

Ingo
