Beware Of Scams

Post by Dennis Cayton »

Greetings To All:

This is a public service message for anybody who decides to sell any merchandise on this forum in the future.

Beware of scams.

I was recently the target of a scam on this forum.

Somebody sent me an email message offering to buy my entire library in an apparent "Good Samaritan" act.

At first I was happy and excited.

This was exactly what I needed.

Then I read the further details of his offer.

He instructed me to send him my name, address, and phone number.

In turn, he said he would send me a cashier's check "in excess" of my asking price for my entire library.

He told me that I was to deposit this check at my bank and to send him back the "difference" (the amout of excess) through Western Union.

Here are his instructions in his very own words:
_____

"However i will like to notify you that i will be senfding a check for the payment and it will be in excess as you will have to fiorward the difference in balance to my pickup shipper as soon as you cash the check and have your payment for the litratures.

Heres is what you will do, as soon as you get the payment deposit it atyour bank and thereafter take your payment for the item, i will forward you the informations you;ll need to remit the difference in balance to via western union to my private pickup shipper,as soon as he confirms the reciept of the payment he will call you so you can arrange a convinient time for the pick up to be done."
_______

This is just a miniature version of the Nigerian Email Scam.

This particular variation occurs very frequently on sites such as Craigslist and many others.

To the scammer who sent me this offer:

I'm onto you, pal.

And so are the authorities.

To my fellow checker friends:

Please watch out for scams such as this.

Don't bite.

In other news, I will be shipping out a couple of late orders next week. A financial crisis and personal illness has set me back during the past month.

Please accept my apologies for my delay. I am sorry.

About 99% of what I have listed left for sale in the 2007 edition of my library list is still for sale:

Once again, feel free to make me an offer on anything I still have that you might want.

Thanks and God Bless.
