King now has 21 points and Joes Schwartz is in 2nd by himself with 15 points. There are a lot of people that have 14 points and Joe is now playing Ron the 10-15 23-18 6-10 opening. Joe has the weak side first.

NO-NO-NO ... this is really very exciting moment, William !!!   Otherwise, if I lose this game, people will blame me to the rest of my life by "losing on purpose" So - I am very, very happy and excited with such wonderful outcome !

All after all - it seems like Suki is in good form now and ready to fight like tiger for 2000 Euros.

The hotel is in the Airport complex and has a curtesy bus available by lifting their telephone line.

Results after 7 rounds: Masters: 1st R. King 24pts, 2nd J. Mc Elhone 18pts, then eight players tied on 16pts – Webster, Young, Martynov, Kareta, Watson, Mc Cosker, Shabshai, Schwartz.
With just 2 rounds remaining it seems that Ron has wrapped up the Irish Open title comfortable.

Senior/Intermediate: J. Maguire 20pts, J. Joliffe 19pts, S. Mc Kenna, 19pts, B. Coll 19pts, G. Young 18pts.

hi hugh

txs for the detailed updates !!

yes as usual King being King has wiped them all off the board !!

I want to congratulate however John for an absolutely outstanding performance ( whatever position he comes in ) . I played him in the scottish last year , he has only been playing for a couple of years but the input is now giving interest and I already sensed he had something different .This is obviously due to a lot of hard work. I believe he is the brightest star in Uk in a long time ,

Hi Guys.Just returned from the Irish Open to my bedsit, where its just finished, and theres a lot of very tired people, after playing 3 rounds yesterday, and not finishing to very late last night.Kim and myself, the only women, played in the open in the seniors, and i think we did pretty well,i finished 22 points, just 1 point off getting a prize, but was pleased with my results.kim did well too with 17 points.Tomorrow we start the qualifier. Its marvellous being here, and the irish folk have made us very welcome.
Pat Breen visited us one day,it was good to see her there.Young Phillip Kareta from the czech republic is staying at the bedn breakfast with us with Tommy and Shane. He did amazingly well taking third place in masters and being only 22.
We are all having a great time. .... Jan Mortimer

Irish Open
Results from the Masters Section:

1. Ron King (Barbados)
2. John McElhone (Ireland)
3. Michael Shabshai (Israel)
4. Filip Kareta (22 years old ! - Czech Republic)
5. Igor Martynov ( Germany)

Bernard Coll won the Seniors section.

I had to rush away after the prize giving to catch a bus home and did not have time to get the full points scores.

Very nice final standings - 5players, 5 countries ! Two outstanding grandmasters, S. McCosker and T. Watson along with American players J. Shwartz and J. Webster were not among top 5 - WOW !

Ron King is in excellent form, lets wait and see if his excellence will be extended to the rest of week

I also am very glad to see couple of my friends, M. Shabshai and I. Martinov, among top performers.

I wish everyone good luck in QT, man and woman and the best should win ! But indeed I am backing American's: Kim Wills, Jim Morrison, Michael Holmes, Joe Shwartz, John Webster, Chuck Freeman

Respectfully,

Alex Moiseyev

Bad news. Chuck did not make it to Ireland. This is going to be a great tournament and I am looking forward to playing some of these players that I have not played before.

Many thanks, Liam.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ron King. I guess this year's triumph at the Irish Open may be his greatest triumph in tournament play here in Europe, considering the enourmous strenghts of this year's event.

Also congratulations to my friend Bernard Coll, who won the Seniors.
i always thought he is a senior force.

Congratulations to John McElhone, the new Irish champion, who outperformed some grandmasters and many very, very strong masters.
Congratulations to Michael Shabshai, who showed that his fine Performances in Prague and Beijing were no one-day wonders.
Also congratulations to my friend Filip, who is a fine player and will be a growing force in the future.
There are a lot of young talents like Filip in Europe, and they also deserve their chances.

Glückwunsch an Igor Martynov.

I think this tournament confirmes the Beijing verdict, that Checkers/Draughts power changes hands from the anglophone countries to the rest of the world in this decade.
The next match USA vs. Ireland & Britian will not be the international match anymore.
There are others who are as good if not better.

I am looking forward to see the QT, with all five prize winners, Borghetti, the Durdyevs and may the best man or woman win.

Ron King still can bite. He sharpend his teeth for the QT, but I know that others still have resources as well.

The games will go on!
