What do you like about checkers?: I love checkers. Worked in mental health years ago and had my first tournamnet for kids which brought about parents and grandparents reconnecting with face to face time, leaving out electronics and kids meeting people they might otherwise never have positive conversations and earning experiences with. Wehn I did that tournament an older man came to me to teach me. I never new about different boards and so much more-still learning-will never be like the people I met but am happy to keep learning. Thanks

UPCOMING TOURNAMENT

HEllo Everyone
More official plans are in the works. I am fairly new here and will take any and all suggestions to do this successfully. The tournament won't be as most here are used to, as I'm not a pro, nor do I have or can get timers, expense etc. This is mainly to raise awareness and funds for Autism for kids. A day of fun and competition. JAy H has given me some very good ideas.
SO far these are facts. It will be held Sept 24th a ten dollar entry fee, check made out to FOAK-Friends/Families of AMazing/Autistic KIds. There will be age groups, and for the more serious players(pros/long timers) I hope to have made enough boards, green and buff, two inch squares. Some boards will be prizes and at least one, but hopefully two tables, green and buff- which I will make. There will be mostly red and black boards. I hope to have a seperate section, a bit more quiet ? for those players who are here.
This will be held at ST. Pauls Lutheran Church on Trinity road in York, just a hair off rt.30, close to hotels and restaurants-I will be searching for discounts and suggest nicer but less expensive hotels as well as restaurants. The church will be just for us-non denominational day:) Times are 9-3 I have use of kitchen facilities, but only for hot dogs, burgers snacks etc. Sorry Steak is out, no alcohol, unless my house later-kidding. This will be a great time to support a great cause and let kids, all kids know, ya don't need batteries to think and play. I did do this once before, casual and many kids came, took it very serious, so all of you adult teachers, experienced players, come on out. More details to come, such as addresses and answers to any questions. Whew! That's all folks.
Thank you all for time reading this and please feel free to send me ideas, Checkerboardz4u
Checkerboardz4u made and mailed in 3 weeks, red & black or Green and Buff 2 or 1.5 inch squares
