What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

You got it, Pal. Exactly.

William Shakespeare said it pretty well too:

Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.

Othello, Act 3, scene 3

There you have it.

Wow , i am particular to good quotes and both of you (Pal & Gary) have delivered great quotes ... i really liked them , :)

Congratulations Jan - Well done !!

The rest is just sour grapes.
Liam, like i said if she is responsible for this, they should give her a medal and not villification

Well sorry to disappoint you Jay with my inability to confirm a feeling which you aren't even 100% sure about something which I may have wanted to say in your opinion.

Like I said before if I want to say something I say it. I am straight as an arrow I don't deal in subtleties or innuendo.

Can anyone provide a donation link...I see there is one on the ACF Donation page with this....
"Please donate to the travel fund for the Woman's World Championship match."

Not quite sure what this is...

Some people have very short memory and washing brain.

Danny, Liam and other probably want to forget everything and forgive Jan, but I can't. She made alot of damage to checkers and in particular woman checkers, she is very selfish highly dishonest person. I can't go over this.

For the time now we are in the middle of other drama and saga: when Jan learned that she can't get title in normal way, she tried to kill title and close woman checkers.
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Alex,

You have made it strong enough for the okie to comment. I must come to the defense of
a my longtime friend Jan.

I remember all turmoil and postings about the Womens title, but never felt Jan was dishonest and deviously trying to destroy the womens championship, ect. ?????

You have made the charge, can you back it up with proof of her damaging checkers or womens checkers for that matter. And in what manner was she dishonest?

Also your Friend for many years,
Wayne Gober

Alex.... we all know how you did on this topic in the past.... why repeat the same mistake ??? Nobody is asking you to forgive anyone, we all have our opinion.... you got an axe to grind and it is showing very clearly.... (it's not pretty BTW)

If it takes the WCDF and the TDF over a year to organise the match for 2 players living in the same city...

it clearly shows they couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery !!!!!!
cheers

Ive just read the dreadful rubbish that Alex has written about me on this subject.First of all it was Toyeva that approached me asking for help because noone was helping her in her cause to get a womens match going.
She told me(and i have her email)Hugh had contacted her just once stating there had been no bids for her match,so more or less she couldnt have one.She wanted to respond to the subject online after what id queried about it.I helped her by giving her Alan Millhone and Jason"s emails as she couldnt seem to access the forum.
In the past shes also asked me for help in getting study material and ive given her different sites.Im allowed to be angry at the fact that she was contacted only once(she says) concerning the match and it was all negative.Ive only ever tried to help her.
Based on my past experiences and being villified for TRYING to get a match going,i know exactly how frustrating and time consuming it is.Particularly my experiences with Hoja Durdeyev
Alex is pure poison and will lie about anything to further his cause, and he is a good friend of Hoja's, so everything he says is tainted in their favour.Well im sorry Alex, i wont toady to you, just because of your status. You should be ashamed of yourself, you are acting like a big baby that doesnt get his own way.
Since ive helped Toyeva, she has now been silent towards me,probably because shes been warned about speaking out,and told a lot of lies about me.Well im sorry, i dont live in the Soviet Union or Turkmenisten, so they cant shut me up. I call a spade a spade and tell it as it is.And maybe the powers that be in the WCDF have also pursuaded Toyeva not to speak out so she can have the match. To me that is a totally corrupt organization, if that is the truth! And its time it was changed!

No woman in the history of checkers tried harder to further the game than Jan Mortimer.
This is a fact which cannot be tampered with as the evidence is overwhelming.

I am proud to call Jan Mortimer my very dear friend, for she truly is the most honest person I have ever known during my thirty-eight years as a checker player.

Yes, Jan does deserve a medal for all she has done to help so many in the game of checkers.

Thank you sincerely to a very wonderful and dear friend.

I got on well with Toyeva in Ireland,we had some good even games, and she seemed to like me.When i got home she kept in touch with me. I never discussed the match with her until she contacted me recently. I was surprised because i believed she lived in the same home town as Hoja, and so a match could easily be arranged.
When she told me she'd heard nothing except that 1 email, i tried to get her used to the idea that a match may never take place,as in the case of me, and the woman from mongolia, and told her to read the background info on the womens matches.
I did encourage her to talk about it on the forum as nothing was happening for her,and as you see it has got results.Maybe her father didnt have the money that Hoja required to have a match.
